In deep vein thrombosis, thrombolytic agents can improve vein patency more rapidly than conventional anticoagulant therapy. The clinical benefit of thrombolytic use would be a reduction in the incidence and severity of the postthrombotic syndrome and limb salvage in "phlegmatia caerulea". OBJECTIVE: To investigate the changes of urokinase-type plasmino-gen activator (u-PA) in the process of acantholysis in pemphigus and observe the influence of purified urokinase on the cultured skin explant.
METHODS: The expression of urokinase antigen on the pemphigus organ model was revealed by immunohistochemical method; PA activity was assayed in the acantholysis model; the influence of urokinase on the epidermis was observed by adding purified urokinase into the cultured skin explant.

The cellular receptor for urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPAR) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored membrane protein that plays a central role in pericellular plasminogen activation. The role of tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) in chronic subdural hematomas was investigated. Fifteen cases of hematoma fluid and 26 cases of outer membrane and adjacent dura mater were used for the analysis, which were obtained at surgical treatment. Isolation of TPA was done by using a lysine-sepharose affinity chromatoculumn, then, TPA was measured by a fibrin plate method. OBJECTIVE: To determine the in vitro effects of several nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs on the IL-1 altered expression and activity of tPA, uPA and PAI-1 by articular chondrocytes.
METHODS: Bovine chondrocytes were cultured in alginate gel beads. Cells were treated with IL-1alpha in the presence or absence of drugs at various concentrations.
