To determine the safety and efficacy of a hypertonic solution for hypovolemic resuscitation, we compared the acute and delayed effects of hypertonic sodium lactate solution (514 mOsm) to Ringer's lactate solution (274 mOsm) in a porcine model of hemorrhagic shock. We successfully anesthetized a 19-year-old female with type I glycogen storage disease for hepatectomy. She had hypoglycemia and severe metabolic acidosis before surgery. General anesthesia was performed with epidural anesthesia. Two regimens of fluid and electrolyte therapy were studied in children with severe cholera and noncholera diarrhoea.
