Genetic Diversity of the BLV env Gene and gp51 Mutations in Genotypes G4 and G7 Circulating in Dairy Cattle in the Novosibirsk Region (Western Siberia, Russia).

Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is an oncogenic retrovirus and the etiological agent of enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL), which is spread worldwide. This study presents data on the genetic diversity of BLV in the Novosibirsk region of Russia. ELISA-positive samples were selected from six districts of the Novosibirsk region (Dovolnoye, Barabinsk, Tatarsk, Toguchin, Bolotnoye, and Kochenyovo districts). To assess the diversity of circulating BLV genotypes, samples were collected from settlements and districts that were geographically distant from each other and had no shared pasture lands. In total, 1

Comprehensive analysis of the 5-HTTLPR allelic polymorphism effect on behavioral and neurophysiological indicators of executive control in people from different ethnic groups in Siberia.

The allelic polymorphism of the serotonin transporter's gene 5-HTTLPR is considered as one of the factors determining an individual genetic predisposition to the development of a wide range of affective disorders, including depression. Many studies have shown that the climatic and social conditions of people's life can have a significant impact on the connections of 5-HTTLPR with the risk of depression. The stop-signal paradigm (SSP) is an experimental method allowing evaluating an individual ability to the self-control of behavior in a changing environment. In the SSP experiment, a subject sh

A novel pathogenic variant c.975G>A (p.Trp325*) in the POU3F4 gene in Yakut family (Eastern Siberia, Russia) with the X-linked deafness-2 (DFNX2).

Here, we report a novel hemizygous transition c.975G>A (p.Trp325*) in POU3F4 gene (Xq21) found in two deaf half-brothers from one Yakut family (Eastern Siberia, Russia) with identical inner ear abnormalities ("corkscrew" cochlea with an absence of modiolus) specific to X-linked deafness-2 (DFNX2). Comprehensive clinical evaluation (CT and MR-imaging, audiological and stabilometric examinations) of available members of this family revealed both already known (mixed progressive hearing loss) and additional (enlargement of semicircular canals and postural disorders) clinical DFNX2 features in aff

Heterogeneity of 3'-Untraslated Region of Genome RNA of the Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus (TBEV) Strains Isolated from Ticks in the Western Siberia, Russia.

The tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) strains have been isolated from unfed adult ticks Ixodes persulcatus Schulze in Novosibirsk region (South-Western Siberia, Russia) beginning from 1980 till 2006. The TBEV 3'-untraslated region (3'UTR) variable fragment was amplified with primers corresponding to conserved flanking areas. The RT-PCR product lengths varied in range from 100 to 400 bp. Comparative analysis of 3'UTR nucleotide sequences revealed a few groups of the TBEV strains within Siberian genetic subtype with significant intra-group homology and essential differences between groups. The diversity and prevalence of hard ticks attacking human hosts in Eastern Siberia (Russian Federation) with first description of invasion of non-endemic tick species.

Hard ticks are the vectors of many pathogens including tick-borne encephalitis virus and the Lyme disease agent Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato. In Eastern Siberia, Ixodes persulcatus, Dermacentor nuttalli, Dermacentor silvarum and Haemaphysalis concinna are regarded as aggressive to humans. Recently, significant changes in world tick fauna have been reported and this affects the spread of tick-borne pathogens. We studied the current species diversity, population structure and prevalence of tick-borne pathogens of hard ticks (Acari: Ixodidae) that attacked humans in Eastern Siberia (Irkutsk re

Variability of the tick-borne encephalitis virus genome in the 5' noncoding region derived from ticks Ixodes persulcatus and Ixodes pavlovskyi in Western Siberia.

We report the prevalence of Siberian and Far Eastern subtypes of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) in Ixodes persulcatus and Ix. pavlovskyi ticks collected in Tomsk and its suburbs during 2006-2008. The TBEV was detected in 5.7% ticks collected in the city, where Ix. pavlovskyi ticks were dominated and 7.5% ticks from suburban foci with prevalence Ix. persulcatus ticks. Genotyping of the virus showed that Siberian subtype (89.5%) is predominant in individual ticks of Tomsk suburbs; however, the proportion of Far Eastern subtype in two urban sites reached 47%. Paleopathological description and diagnosis of metastatic carcinoma in an Early Bronze Age (4588+34 Cal. BP) forager from the Cis-Baikal region of Eastern Siberia.

Extensive osteolytic and osteoblastic lesions were observed on the skeletal remains of an adult male excavated from an Early Bronze Age cemetery dated to 4556+32 years BP, located in the Cis-Baikal region of Siberia (Russian Federation). Lytic lesions ranged in size from several mm to over 60 mm in diameter and had irregular, moth-eaten borders. Many of these lesions destroyed trabecular bone, though a hollowed shell of cortical bone often remained observable. Radiographic analysis revealed numerous lytic lesions within trabecular bone that had not yet affected the cortex. Blastic lesions were

[Differences in the infestation rate of young cyprinid fishes (Cypriniformes) by metacercaria of Posthodiplostomum Cuticola (Digenea, Diplostomatidae) in river and lake systems of the Lake Chany basin (Western Siberia)].

A total of 12 fish species were studied for the invasion of P. cuticola (Nordmann, 1832) metacercariae in the Chany Lake estuaries, river and lake systems during different periods of water level. All infected individuals were represented by juveniles of the family Cyprinidae, except for adults of the dace Leuciscus leuciscus. (L.). Under an average water level (2010) the highest rate of fish invasion was revealed in the estuary zone, where the prevalence of infection (PI) constituted 37.5%, 13.4%, and 5.9% for the gudgeon Gobio gobio, the roach Rutilus rutilus (L.), and the dace L. leuciscus (

Reporting of New tick-borne encephalitis virus strains isolated in Eastern Siberia (Russia) in 1960-2011 and explaining them in an evolutionary context using Bayesian phylogenetic inference.

Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is one of the main tick-borne viral pathogens of humans. Infection may induce signs of meningitis, encephalitis, paralysis and high fever. TBEV is well studied by molecular phylogenetic methods. The present-day implementation of Bayesian phylogenetic models allows population dynamics to be tracked, providing changes in population size that were not directly observed. However, the description of the past population dynamics of TBEV is rare in the literature. In our investigation, we provide data on the dynamics of viral genetic diversity of TBEV in Zabaikals
