Anterior subluxation (hyperflexion sprain) is localized, purely ligamentous disruption of the cervical spine caused by a limited flexion force. When associated with a simple wedge fraction, also a flexion injury, anterior subluxation may be the more significant lesion. Radiographically, anterior subluxation is characterised by (1) a localized kyphotic angulation at the level of injury; (2) anterior rotation, or displacement, of the subluxed vertebra; (3) anterior narrowing and posterior widening of the disc space; (4) widening of the space between the subluxed vertebral body and the subjacent

Most injuries sustained during basic training comprised sprains and strains. Marines who remained uninjured during basic training outperformed those who reported at least one injury on fitness tests. These results point to enhanced conditioning as a potential entry point to target future intervention efforts.

We retrospectively reviewed the cases of three patients with injuries similar to the mechanism of an ankle sprain which resulted in compartment syndrome of the lower extremity. All three patients presented with sharp, proximal, anterolateral pain in the leg after an indirect, twisting injury. None of the injuries involved direct contact. Two of the three athletes initially presented to local hospitals, where the injury was misdiagnosed as an ankle sprain. The mechanism appears to be a muscle strain or tear with resultant hemorrhage in the compartment. All three patients returned to high-level
