Lateral extension and attachment of mesh to the lateral vagina during laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy: a modified technique aimed at lowering recurrences in the anterior vaginal compartment. A surgical video.

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE: Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy has been demonstrated to be the gold standard of prolapse surgery in cases with apical defect. Most recurrences seem to occur in the anterior compartment, especially if a paravaginal defect is present. To reduce the incidence of anterior recurrence after laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy we modified our previous published technique by placing the anterior mesh not only deep under the bladder but also laterally and fixing it to the lateral edge of the vagina. With this video article, we would like to show and explain our modified technique and demonstrat

One-stage posterior focus debridement, interbody graft using titanium mesh cages, posterior instrumentation and fusion in the surgical treatment of lumbo-sacral spinal tuberculosis in the aged.

PURPOSE: Aged patients represent a high risk group for acquiring spinal tuberculosis, and it still remains a leading cause of kyphosis and paraplegia in developing nations. Aged patients often combined with cardiovascular and respiratory disease and single lung ventilation via anterior approach surgery could result in more post-operative complications. We aimed to analyze the efficacy and feasibility of surgical management of aged patients with lumbo-sacral spine tuberculosis using one-stage posterior focus debridement, interbody graft using titanium mesh cages, posterior instrumentation, and

Use of autologous dermal flap as mesh coverage in the treatment of large abdominal-wall defect in patients following massive weight loss: presentation of a novel surgical technique.

PURPOSE: Reconstruction of large abdominal-wall defects (AWD) in patients after massive weight loss (MWL) can be challenging. Patients are left with a sizeable amount of excess skin and subcutaneous tissue which can serve as a natural and readily available source of mesh coverage. In this article, we present our experience in the reconstruction of large AWD in patients after MWL, using autogenous dermal flaps combined with a synthetic mesh. METHOD: All patients with large AWD and MWL, diagnosed between January 2012 and December 2016, were considered to be candidates for the procedure. During

COMET (Composite Outcomes of Mesh vs suture Techniques for prolapse repair)- Protocol for a single blind randomized controlled multicenter trial testing surgical innovation in female pelvic surgery.

BACKGROUND: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) increases in incidence and severity with aging. At least 1 in 4 women seek pelvic floor care and many more suffer with concurrent symptoms of bowel, bladder and sexual dysfunction, which can have a large impact on quality of life. It is estimated that 1 in 5 women will undergo surgery for POP. POP is difficult to cure with existing surgeries and therefore treatment failure and reoperations are common. Surgical innovation in this area is urgently needed and we have developed a novel technique of bilateral sacrospinous vaginal vault fixation with synthetic

TOTAL MAXILLARY BEAK RECONSTRUCTION IN A SOLOMON'S COCKATOO (CACATUA DUCORPSII) BY USING A SKULL-ANCHORED TITANIUM MESH PLATE PROSTHESIS: A NOVEL SURGICAL APPROACH OVERCOMING KERATIN-DEPENDENT FIXATION LIMITATIONS-A CASE REPORT.

Traumatic total maxillary beak avulsion in psittacines presents a significant surgical challenge due to the absence of residual keratinized or osseous tissue for conventional fixation, as well as the beak's critical roles in feeding and behavior. Existing repair techniques rely on anchoring to remaining beak structures and are therefore unsuitable for complete beak loss cases. This report describes a novel surgical approach for total maxillary beak reconstruction in a Solomon's cockatoo (Cacatua ducorpsii) with complete upper beak avulsion caused by intraspecific aggression. A titanium mesh pl

Efficacy of anchoring the four-arm transvaginal mesh to the mid-urethra vs original surgery as a surgical correction for stress urine incontinence in coexisting anterior vaginal prolapse grades II and III: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of obesity with aging is escalating alarmingly; and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) are now becoming a growing epidemic among the elderly. Synthetic transvaginal mesh has been employed with increasing popularity in the treatment of POP and is usually highly effective in controlling the principal symptoms of prolapse. However, studies have reported that mesh operations provide fairly unfavorable SUI cure rates. Therefore, additional anti-incontinence surgical strategies are increasingly being scrutinized to achieve better postoperativ
