To determine whether inappropriate surgical procedures based on an initial misdiagnosis affected recurrence and survival rates, we retrospectively reviewed the surgical treatment and results of 117 patients with high-grade osteosarcomas treated from January 1, 1990 to December 31, 2000. Nine patients had intralesional curettage performed at other institutions based on an erroneous diagnosis of a benign lesion. The MELD/PELD (M/P) system for liver allocation was implemented on February 27, 2002, in the United States. Since then sufficient time has elapsed to allow for assessment of posttransplant survival rates under this system. We analyzed 4163 deceased donor liver transplants performed between February 27, 2002, and December 31, 2003, for whom follow-up reporting was 95% and 67% complete at 6 and 12 months, respectively. Ninety-seven patients with light chain disease (LCD) were studied. The median survival from diagnosis was 30 mo for 52 patients with kappa-LCD and 10 mo for 45 patients with lambda-LCD (p less than 0.0007). A lower proportion of kappa-LCD patients (15.7%) than lambda-LCD patients (42.2%) died within the first 6 mo after diagnosis. The survival of the remaining patients with kappa-LCD was still much longer than of those with lambda-LCD (p = 0.022). The shorter survival of lambda-LCD patients could not be ascribed to an increased incidence of recognized manifestations indicating a poor prognosis

IMPORTANCE: Despite high rates of local tumor control in patients who are treated for uveal melanoma, most patients will eventually die of metastasis. When metastasis develops, the liver is involved in most cases, and hepatic metastases are particularly refractory to treatment. Finding effective treatments has been challenging. This paper presents the long-term results of single dose stereotactic radiosurgery for intraocular uveal malignant melanoma, and summarizes the results of the retrospective study in 170 Slovak patients. A group of uveal melanoma patients (149 choroidal melanoma, 21 ciliary body melanoma) from 20 to 92 years of age with 59 year median were treated in 2001-2016.
