Effects of the beta-carboline, FG 7142, in the social interaction test of anxiety and the holeboard: correlations between behaviour and plasma concentrations.

The behavioural effects of the beta-carboline FG 7142 were investigated in the social interaction test of anxiety and the holeboard test of exploration and locomotor activity. FG 7142 (5-20 mg/kg) produced a significant decrease in the time spent in social interaction by pairs of rats, without an accompanying decrease in motor activity. This anxiogenic effect was highly correlated with the plasma concentrations of FG 7142 for the rats receiving 5 and 10 mg/kg doses, but not for those receiving the 20 mg/kg dose. In the holeboard, FG 7142 had no effect on exploratory head-dipping at the doses t

Quality of life, anxiety and cancer worry following hereditary cancer testing: a 6-month Swedish follow-up study.

PURPOSE: As genetic testing becomes increasingly integrated into routine care, understanding its impact on psychological well-being and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is essential. This study assessed HRQoL, anxiety and cancer worry following hereditary cancer testing in a Swedish clinical setting and identified predictors of these outcomes. METHODS: Participants were recruited from four outpatient cancer genetics clinics across Sweden. Eligible individuals either carried a pathogenic variant or met clinical criteria for familial breast or colorectal cancer. Questionnaires were complet

Testing the Associations Between State and Trait Anxiety, Anger, Sadness, and Ambulatory Blood Pressure and Whether Race Impacts These Relationships.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety, anger, and sadness are related to elevated ambulatory blood pressure (ABP), yet it is unclear whether each emotion exerts unique effects. Moreover, an understanding of who might be most susceptible to the negative effects of these emotions is limited, with the trait tendency to experience them or one's race as potential moderators. PURPOSE: The study examined the potential for differential effects of momentary anxiety, anger, and sadness on ABP. The study assessed whether a trait tendency to experience these negative emotions and/or race (Black vs. non-Black) would modera

Comparing Scores From Full Length, Short Form, and Adaptive Tests of the Social Interaction Anxiety and Social Phobia Scales.

The current study developed and examined the performance of a computerized adaptive version of the Social Interaction Anxiety and Social Phobia Scales (SIAS/SPS) and compared results with a previously developed static short form (SIAS-6/SPS-6) in terms of measurement precision, concordance with the full forms, and sensitivity to treatment. Among an online sample of Australian adults, there were relatively minor differences in the performance of the adaptive tests and static short forms when compared with the full scales. Moreover, both adaptive and static short forms generated similar effect s

Fetal cardiac examination can affect patients' preference on invasive tests: A new data on maternal anxiety indicated karyotyping.

BACKGROUND: Prenatal screening for aneuploidies has seen great changes over the last 2 decades. But there is still no non-invasive diagnostic test. Therefore, prenatal invasive procedures are still being routinely performed due to maternal anxiety. The association of cardiac anomalies and abnormal findings with aneuploidies has been known for a long time. This prospective study was done to evaluate abnormal fetal cardiac examination (FCE) findings on patients undergoing diagnostic invasive procedures due to maternal anxiety and to assess the predictive value of abnormal cardiac findings on abn

Anti-anxiety activity of successive extracts of Angelica archangelica Linn. on the elevated T-maze and forced swimming tests in rats.

OBJECTIVE: Angelica archangelica Linn. is widely used in food and liquor preparations and also in Kashmiri folk medicine to reduce anxiety. We evaluated the anxiolytic effect of successive extracts of A. archangelica linn. (SAE) on rats tested in the elevated T-maze test (an animal model of generalized anxiety) at doses that exhibit antidepressant-like activity in humans. METHODS: A. archangelica (1 kg) was subjected to successive extraction in a soxhlet apparatus with solvents [petroleum ether (40-60 degrees C), chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol and decoction with water] in order of increa

The benzodiazepine diazepam demonstrates the usefulness of Syrian hamsters as a model for anxiety testing: evaluation of other classes of anxiolytics in comparison to diazepam.

Clinical evidence in humans suggests that there is some linkage between dysfunction in the timing of circadian rhythms and certain types of depression. In animal models, Syrian hamsters have been used extensively to study the pharmacology of circadian rhythms, while rats and mice are used to screen putative anxiolytics/antidepressant compounds. It would be beneficial to be able to test anxiolytic/antidepressant compounds in hamsters in conjunction with circadian rhythm studies. Therefore, in this study, Syrian hamsters were used in three experimental paradigms to evaluate anxiety: the elevated

Associations between test anxiety and academic achievement in distance education: avoidance- and overcontrol-related process and the moderating role of exam format preference.

INTRODUCTION: The increased use of distance education has heightened the importance of understanding the self-regulatory correlates of student academic success. Although test anxiety has generally been associated with lower academic achievement, the behavioral and dispositional variables statistically linking these constructs remain insufficiently understood, particularly in digitally mediated learning environments. Grounded in Situated Expectancy-Value Theory and Self-Regulated Learning theory, this study examined the direct and indirect associations between test anxiety and cumulative GPA th

Routine and event-driven HIV testing among MSM in Chongqing, China: a cross-sectional study on the moderating effect of anxiety.

HIV testing is critical for prevention and treatment among men who have sex with men (MSM). This study applied an extended Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) framework to examine HIV testing strategies among Chinese MSM, with anxiety acting as both a direct predictor and a moderator. A cross-sectional survey was conduted among 431 MSM recruited from venues and community-based organizations in Chongqing, China, from June to September 2025. Participants completed a questionnaire assessing sociodemographics, sexual behaviors, HIV knowledge, IMB constructs, and anxiety (GAD-7). HIV tes

Is meta-worry relevant to interpersonal problems? Testing the metacognitive model of generalized anxiety disorder in an analogue- and a clinical sample of GAD.

Interpersonal problems are common in individuals with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and improved interpersonal functioning is an important goal in treatment. In the metacognitive model of worry and generalized anxiety disorder, emotional distress and psychological dysfunction are related to two distinct types of worry. Particular emphasis is put on meta-worry which refers to "worry about worrying" or appraisal of worrying as threatening in itself. Meta-worry impairs effective mental regulation and might therefore be an important predisposition to self-regulate via others and thereof inter

Environmental Enrichment Facilitates Anxiety in Conflict-Based Tests but Inhibits Predator Threat-Induced Defensive Behaviour in Male Mice.

INTRODUCTION: Environmental enrichment (EE) is a useful and sophisticated tool that improves rodents' well-being by stimulating social behaviour and cognitive, motor, and sensory functions. Exposure to EE induces neuroplasticity in different brain areas, including the limbic system, which has been implicated in the control of anxiety and fear. However, the effects of EE on ethologically relevant naturalistic behaviours, such as those displayed by prey in the presence of predators, remain largely unexplored. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In the present study, we investigated anxiety- and panic attack-

Evidence for anxiolytic effects of acute caffeine on anxiety-related behavior in male and female rats tested with and without bright light.

Male and female PVG/c rats were observed in an open field (OF) and an elevated plus maze (EPM) either with or without a bright light stressor (600-692 lx) following an intraperitoneal injection of saline, 25 or 50mg/kg of caffeine. One week later, the same rats were observed under the same drug and lighting conditions but in the opposite apparatus to that experienced earlier. Either the higher or both doses of caffeine decreased anxiety as indicated by increased OF rearing and decreased grooming, immobility and corner occupancy (in the presence of bright light). A similar interpretation applie

Dorsal periaqueductal gray stimulation facilitates anxiety-, but not panic-related, defensive responses in rats tested in the elevated T-maze.

The escape response to electrical or chemical stimulation of the dorsal periaqueductal gray matter (DPAG) has been associated with panic attacks. In order to explore the validity of the DPAG stimulation model for the study of panic disorder, we determined if the aversive consequences of the electrical or chemical stimulation of this midbrain area can be detected subsequently in the elevated T-maze. This animal model, derived from the elevated plus-maze, permits the measurement in the same rat of a generalized anxiety- and a panic-related defensive response, i.e., inhibitory avoidance and escap

What good are positive emotions for treatment? A replication test of whether trait positive emotionality predicts response to exposure therapy for social anxiety disorder.

BACKGROUND: Positive valence emotions serve functions that may facilitate response to exposure therapy - they encourage approach behavior, diminish perceived threat reactivity, and enhance assimilation of new information in memory. Few studies have examined whether positive emotions predict exposure therapy success and extant findings are mixed. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of an exposure therapy trial for social anxiety disorder to test the hypothesis that patients endorsing higher trait positive emotions at baseline would display the greatest treatment response.
