Traumatic shock was induced in anesthetized rats using the Noble-Collip method. This resulted in an abrupt decline in mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) and heart rate. OBJECTIVES: The aims of this study were to describe levels of thromboxane secretion by decidual endothelial cells from normal pregnancies and to determine whether decidual endothelial cell secretion of thromboxane, implicated in the causation of the hypertension and vasoconstriction of preeclampsia, is increased in this disorder.
METHODS: We measured thromboxane generation by cultured decidual endothelial cells from 13 normal pregnancies (NDEC) and 13 pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia (PEDEC), compared with a control population of 6 normal human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC).

Combined therapy with lozartan and metoprolol in patients with chronic cardiac insufficiency has a consistent effect on the levels of epinephrine, angoitensin II, vasopressin, atrial naturiuretic factor, insulin, endothelline, thromboxane B2, guanosine monophosphate, 6-keto prostaglandin F1 alpha, and bradikinin. As to norepinephrine, there has been noted an inconsistent therapeutic effect. It is suggested that the time-related course of a long-term therapy might be associated with a formation of the aldosterone "escape" phenomenon.

Plasma levels of thromboxane (TX) A2 and prostacyclin (PGI2), as measured by radioimmunoassay of their respective stable metabolites TXB2 and 6-keto PGF1 alpha, were studied in six molar pregnancies immediately before, immediately following and 24 h after evacuation of the uterus. Systemic injection of bacterial endotoxin (Lipopolysaccharide, LPS) in experimental animals induces anterior uveitis without major pathological changes in other organs. Pairs of healthy male volunteers received single oral doses (5-200 mg) of UK-37,248-01, a selective thromboxane synthetase inhibitor. Measurement of total thromboxane B2 (TXB2) concentrations in serum from venous blood showed that production of TXB2 was inhibited in a dose-related manner, with peak inhibition 1 h after doses of 50 mg and above. OBJECTIVE: Endogenous synthesis of cysteinyl leukotrienes in juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) was investigated.
METHODS: Cysteinyl leukotriene synthesis was assessed by measuring the excretion of leukotriene E4 (LTE4) in urine by radioimmunoassay. The identity of urinary LTE4 was investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and 2,3-dinor-thromboxane B2 was measured with GC-MS.
