[Existing report of the health care of detainees and of the organization of the drug circuit in prisons in France].

Since the healthcare system reform in prisons by the law of 18 January 1994, health care for prisoners has depended on the public hospital service. Since the application of this law, hospital pharmacists have been responsible for the health product circuit in the prison. In order to reassess the overall health care of detainees in prison in 2022, a study is being carried out. This study also aims to carry out an inventory of the organization of the drug circuit in prisons in France. In June 2022, a questionnaire was sent by email to pharmacists in charge of supplying health products to one or

Unintended consequences of the potential phase-out of gamma irradiation.

The radioisotope cobalt-60 (Co-60) is important for commercial, medical, and agricultural applications. Its widespread use has meant that Co-60 can be found in less secured facilities, leading to the fear that unauthorized persons could obtain and use it to produce a "dirty bomb". This potential security concern has led to government calls for phasing-out Co-60 and other radiation sources, despite ongoing safety and security regulations for handling, transport and use of radioactive sealed sources. This paper explores potential implications of phasing out radioisotopic technologies, including

Updates in immunoassays: virology.

Virus identification is a challenge to the clinical microbiologist since growing viruses in traditional cell culture is labor intensive, time consuming, and subject to contamination. The advent of rapid and automated immunoassays has eliminated this problem by generating positive results in minutes to hours. For example, testing for infectious mononucleosis can yield a positive result in 3-8 minutes as seen with the Beckman Coulter, Inc. ICON Mono test or in 5-15 minutes with the MONO Mononucleosis Rapid Test Device marketed by ACON Laboratories, Inc. Fully automated immunoassay analyzers prov

Out-of-hospital births and neonatal outcomes: a retrospective cohort study from a level IV NICU and review of regulatory frameworks.

Out-of-hospital births have increased in the United States, yet their neonatal safety remains debated, particularly in states with lower midwifery integration. This study aimed to describe neonatal outcomes following out-of-hospital births, compare home vs. birth center deliveries, and evaluate birth center features associated with neonatal transfers. We conducted a retrospective cohort study at a Texas Level IV NICU which included 226 neonates admitted post-out-of-hospital births (2020-2024). Analysis included electronic record derived outcomes and resource utilization, supplemented by survey

Parents' Experiences of Diagnosis and Screening for Down Syndrome in The Netherlands.

This study investigates parental experiences with screening and diagnostic testing for Down syndrome (DS) in the Netherlands from 2005 to 2024. Utilizing online surveys from the Dutch Down Syndrome Foundation, the research analyzes changes in diagnostic communication, parental satisfaction, and screening considerations over time. Findings indicate a rising uptake of prenatal screening among survey respondents. Yet, they reported lower overall satisfaction with their prenatal diagnostic experience in later surveys. Notably, 39% (16/41) of parents with a prenatal suggestive diagnosis in 2024 fel

Cayley-Purser secured communication and jackknife correlative classification for COVID patient data analysis.

Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is a group of medical devices that connect the healthcare information technology to minimize the redundant hospital visit and healthcare system troubles. IoMT connect the patients to the doctor and transmit the medical data over the network. The spread of corona virus has put the people at high risk. Due to increasing number of cases and its stress on health professionals, IoMT technology is used in many healthcare centers. But, the security level and data classification accuracy was not improved by existing methods during the data communication. In order to s

Willingness to pay for health insurance in Italy: evidence from a survey on consumers' behaviour.

This paper examines the willingness to pay (WTP) for duplicative private health insurance in Italy, a country with universal healthcare system characterized by broad public coverage alongside substantial waiting times and relatively high out-of-pocket expenditure. Using nationally representative data from the Italian Survey of Consumer Expectations (ISCE), we elicit individual WTP through a structured bidding mechanism for insurance offering faster access to surgeries, outpatient procedures, and diagnostic examinations already covered by the public system. Willingness to pay increases with inc

Common laboratory organic solvents are better medium for molecular detection of RNA viruses using PCR.

PURPOSE: The unavailability of recommended viral transport medium during epidemics of respiratory viral infections is a substantial healthcare concern. It may prompt the use of alternatives, which may give rise to results with questionable validity. The present study was carried out to assess and validate the utility of commonly available solvents in the hospital/healthcare set-ups which may be used as ready and economical alternatives to commercial VTMs. METHODS: To evaluate the readily available solvents as an alternative to VTM, cell culture supernatant of pH1N1 2009 isolate with HA titres

Experiences and service-uptake factors of receiving and providing care for meningitis and its sequelae: a qualitative systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Meningitis is a life-threatening condition with substantial morbidity and mortality, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). While quantitative research has enhanced the understanding of diagnostic and treatment efficacy, qualitative data regarding the lived experiences remain underexplored. This systematic review synthesises qualitative evidence on the experiences of patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers regarding meningitis diagnosis, treatment, and care, as well as the barriers and facilitators influencing service uptake and provision. The review aimed t

Healthcare Worker Mental Health and Wellbeing During COVID-19: Mid-Pandemic Survey Results.

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND: HealthCare worker (HCW) mental health and wellbeing are uniquely affected by the complexities of COVID-19 due to exposure to the virus, isolation from family and friends, risk and uncertainty. Little if any inquiry has examined the effects on an entire healthcare system, particularly immediately post-surge. We sought to examine the prevalence of psychiatric symptoms and behavioral health difficulties as a healthcare system transitioned out of the first wave. We assessed the effects of work role, setting and individual diversity factors on employee distress and coping s

[Eduard Lent (1831-1911): founder and supporter of public health care, social institutions, and physician self-management].

Modern urology owes much to our predecessors. Researchers in the 20th century were able to develop their specialist techniques and their professional independence on the basis of the fundamental studies and measures carried out by their predecessors in the 19th century. As a medical practitioner, Eduard Lent provided pioneering solutions to the three major sociomedical problems of his time, namely wide-spread epidemics like cholera, social inequalities, and lack of organization of the medical profession. His answer are to be found in the organization of public healthcare, establishment of suit
