Effects of antiepileptic drugs and seizure type on operant responding in mentally retarded persons.

The performance of 129 mentally retarded persons was studied on a progressive fixed-ratio schedule of reinforcement. Subjects were selected according to antiepileptic drug (AED) regimen or membership in one of four control groups. The AEDs studied were: phenobarbital (PB); phenytoin (PHT); PB in combination with PHT (PB/PHT); and valproic acid (VPA) in combination with other AEDs . The control groups were: persons without seizure disorders and on no medications (control); persons without seizure disorders, but on the chronic medication thioridazine ( TDZ ); persons with histories of one or mor

Cognitive/personality pattern and triplet expansion size in adult myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1): CTG repeats, cognition and personality in DM1.

BACKGROUND: Although central nervous system (CNS) involvement in adult myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) was described long ago, the large number of variables affecting the cognitive and personality profile have made it difficult to determine the effect of DM1 on the brain. The aim of this study was to define the cognitive and personality patterns in adult DM1 patients, and to analyse the relationship between these clinical patterns and their association with the underlying molecular defect. METHOD: We examined 121 adult DM1 patients with confirmed molecular CTG repeat expansion and 54 control

Using the alternative model of personality disorders for DSM-5 traits to identify personality types, and the relationship with disordered eating, depression, anxiety and stress.

BACKGROUND: There is a substantial and growing evidence base that has identified three distinct personality types (Overcontrol, Undercontrol and Resilient) among samples of individuals with eating disorders, as well as non-clinical samples. Even in studies where up to six personality types have been identified, the three core types representing Overcontrol, Undercontrol and Resilient consistently emerge. The aim of the research was to explore whether latent Overcontrol and Undercontrol personality types could be identified using pathological personality types as part of the Alternative Model f

Ion torrent personal genome machine sequencing for genomic typing of Neisseria meningitidis for rapid determination of multiple layers of typing information.

Neisseria meningitidis causes invasive meningococcal disease in infants, toddlers, and adolescents worldwide. DNA sequence-based typing, including multilocus sequence typing, analysis of genetic determinants of antibiotic resistance, and sequence typing of vaccine antigens, has become the standard for molecular epidemiology of the organism. However, PCR of multiple targets and consecutive Sanger sequencing provide logistic constraints to reference laboratories. Taking advantage of the recent development of benchtop next-generation sequencers (NGSs) and of BIGSdb, a database accommodating and a

Association Between Type D Personality and Cardiovascular Disease History: Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Type D personality, characterized by high negative affectivity and social inhibition, has been linked to poorer mental health and heightened risk for adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Although previous studies have examined associations between type D personality, psychological distress, and cardiovascular disease (CVD), many have assessed these factors independently, relied on clinical samples, or overlooked the simultaneous assessment of psychological distress and CVD history. Consequently, less is known about how type D traits relate to emotional distress and CVD history within t

Management of Type 1 diabetes in adolescents: Effectiveness of the remote personalized system of instruction model.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) is a common chronic condition in childhood and requires appropriate education and self-management skills. Structured education is key to improving glycemic stability and empowering adolescents. The Personalized System of Instruction (PSI), though effective in other fields, is underused in diabetes education. This study evaluated the impact of PSI-based structured ongoing education program among adolescents living with T1DM and with glycemic instability. METHODS: A randomized controlled trial with a pre-test/post-test comparison group design

Association between central serous chorioretinopathy and personality types: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

In this study, we systematically review and synthesize the evidence on the association between central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) and personality types, and quantify the relationship between Type A behaviour and CSC. We systematically searched 12 literature databases on 5 October 2025 for studies in which personality types were evaluated in patients with CSC. Data extraction and risk-of-bias assessment followed standardized protocols. Studies were reviewed qualitatively. Random-effects meta-analysis was performed for the association between Type A behaviour and CSC. Twelve studies of 2176

Tension-Type Headache: Toward an Integrative Multidimensional Framework for Clinical Stratification and Personalized Management.

Tension-type headache (TTH) is the most prevalent primary headache disorder worldwide, contributing substantially to individual disability and global socioeconomic burden. Despite its high prevalence, TTH remains clinically heterogeneous, with episodic and chronic forms influenced by the dynamic interplay of peripheral, central, psychosocial, and lifestyle-related mechanisms. Peripheral musculoskeletal factors, including craniocervical muscle alterations and myofascial trigger points, interact with central sensitization processes, while psychosocial stressors, coping strategies, and lifestyle

Predictors of Dual Phosphodiesterase Type 5 Inhibitor Therapy in Persons With Erectile Dysfunction and Diabetes.

Background While on-demand phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i) remain standard therapy for erectile dysfunction (ED), data are lacking for non-responders, particularly those with diabetes, who require dual phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor therapy (DPT), i.e, daily low-dose tadalafil and on-demand PDE5i. This represents one of the first studies addressing this critical gap in evidence. Aim To identify the predictors of requirement for dual PDE5i therapy in persons with type 2 diabetes and ED. Methods A retrospective study conducted at a diabetes center in Lucknow, India (November 2020

Personality functioning in adolescents: exploring the links with childhood maltreatment types and internalizing and externalizing difficulties.

BACKGROUND: The reconceptualization of the personality disorder model brought by the DSM-5 and ICD-11 introduced the level of personality functioning as the main criterion of PD, which encompasses a set of intrapsychic functions necessary for self-other understanding in interpersonal contexts. Research interest has been growing in examining the relationship between childhood traumatic experiences and personality functioning, predominantly with adult populations; however, there is a notable scarcity of studies exploring these associations in adolescents. AIMS: The aim of the present study was
