The comparative morphology of the gastric mucosal microvasculature was investigated using the corrosion casting technique. The vascular pattern consisted of a hexagonally arranged capillary plexus surrounding the gastric glands and terminating in venules running perpendicular to the mucosal axis. Vessels of the pyloric antrum demonstrated an acute angle between capillaries and venules, whereas vessels of the gastroduodenal junction changed from a honeycomb pattern to a leaf-like arrangement.

Intravital microscopy was employed to examine cerebral circulation in rats assessed by blood flow in the venules with diameter of 10-30 μ during immersion hypothermia continued to the moment of respiratory arrest and for 10 min thereafter. Circulation in the cerebral microvessels continued during severe hypothermia, and it went on even after hypothermic respiratory arrest while the heart was beating. In pial venules, the blood continued to fl ow for 8-10 min after respiratory arrest.

In anesthetized cats, with the aid of the method of television line single out, the diameters of mesenteric microvessels and their blood flow were studied. The diameter of the flow in arterioles and venules was shown to undergo greater changes than the diameter of the microvessels proper, although a close correlation was revealed between both parameters. The above differences of the changes of diameters are more obvious during dilatory responses. The changes depend on the initial caliber of the arterioles and venules.
