OBJECTIVE: To compare the construct validity and responsiveness of the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), Croft Index, and disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand (DASH) for patients with adhesive capsulitis and to compare these with pain on a visual analog scale, the Health Assessment Questionnaire, and the problem-elicitation technique.
STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Two randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trials of interventions for adhesive capsulitis were performed. Both trials recruited patients from community-based physiotherapy practices. Responsiveness at 3 weeks postb

Shoulder problems are common in patients with traumatic brain injury. Very little has been written about the evaluation and neuro-orthopedic management of these problems. This is largely because there have not been surgical treatments available other than release of contracted, nonfunctional shoulders. Shoulder problems can be classified and evaluated using several different strategies: bony versus soft tissue restrictions; static versus dynamic deformities; traumatic injuries versus impairments secondary to weakness and spasticity; or problems of active function versus problems of passive fun

INTRODUCTION: During a period of 17 months (February 1998 to July 1999) arthroscopy was performed in 172 patients because of pathologic changes of the shoulderjoint.
METHODS: From the history and clinical examination, only eleven patients fulfilled the criteria for primary frozen shoulder set up by Lundberg in 1969. Further investigations such as X-ray examination, ultrasonography and MRI scanning showed no changes that could explain the clinical picture of shoulder stiffness. Of the eleven patients with frozen shoulder. additionally in two cases hyperthyroidism, in five cases diabetes type I

The objective of the study was to assess the short- and long-term effects of adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) on the bone mineral density (BMD) of the affected extremity. BMD and clinical status of 22 patients (group A) with active-phase unilateral adhesive capsulitis and 31 patients (group B) with a previous adhesive capsulitis (average 9 years before the examination) were determined. BMD was measured from the proximal humerus, humeral shaft, radial shaft, ulnar shaft, and distal forearm of both upper extremities using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). In group A, the mean BMD of t

We report the importance of ultrasound in 5 cases of neuropathies caused by popliteal compression of the peroneal nerve. The ultrasound is helpful for the indication of operative decompression. The ultrasound is a proper diagnostic method if sciatica could not be excluded. Unfortunately, not every compression can be evaluated by this method alone.

BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis can substantially impair shoulder function, and manipulation under anesthesia is commonly used for patients with persistent symptoms, yet outcomes vary widely. Previous research has suggested that obesity, commonly assessed through BMI, influences recovery in musculoskeletal conditions. However, BMI does not differentiate between fat and lean mass, which may be more relevant to tissue healing and functional recovery.
QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: (1) Does body fat percentage, rather than BMI, predict clinical outcomes after manipulation under anesthesia for adhesive caps

BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is one of the primary causes of shoulder girdle dysfunction, characterized by pain and restricted mobility in the glenohumeral joint. There is no consensus concerning treatment, with various clinical and surgical approaches proposed. The purpose of this paper is to compare the results of AC treatment in patients who underwent suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) associated with physiotherapy (PT) and those who only underwent physiotherapy.
METHODS: Patients diagnosed with AC, presenting with spontaneous shoulder pain and progressively restricted glenohumeral m

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective single-center imaging-based case-control study.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the association between cervical foraminal stenosis and adhesive capsulitis.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Patients with cervical spondylosis often exhibit shoulder symptoms. Cervical radiculopathies, particularly C5, can cause severe shoulder pain and reduced shoulder mobility, mimicking glenohumeral adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), a common shoulder condition. This is the first study investigating the connection between adhesive capsulitis and cervical radiculopathy.
METHODS: Four hundr

Multiple studies have indicated a potential correlation between immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) and Frozen shoulder (FS). To explore the genetic causal relationship between IMIDs and FS using 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data for FS were obtained from Green's study, while data for 10 IMIDs were sourced from the FinnGen Consortium. The MR analysis was performed using inverse variance weighting, MR Egger, and weighted median methods. IVW, as the primary MR analysis technique, was complemented with other sensitivity ana

BACKGROUND: Severe frozen shoulder (FS) is often resistant to treatment and can thus result in long-term functional impairment. However, its etiology remains unknown. We hypothesized that gene expression of FS would vary by synovial location.
METHODS: The synovial tissues of patients with FS were collected prospectively and analyzed for the expression of 19 genes. Synovial tissues from patients with rotator cuff tear (RCT) or shoulder instability (SI) were also analyzed as controls. A total of 10 samples were analyzed from each group. The specimens were arthroscopically taken from three diffe
