Retinal imaging after corneal inlay implantation.

We report 2 cases of implantation with the Kamra corneal inlay to describe central and peripheral retinal visibility and the quality of optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans. Under pharmacological mydriasis, the central and peripheral retina was explored without disturbance by an experienced retinal ophthalmologist. Central color imaging was done without difficulty, and peripheral imaging was accurate despite a small bright shadow in every image. The quality of the OCT scans of the macular line, macular 3-dimensional cube, and macular radial protocols were 156.51, 77.49, and 84.35, respecti

Evaluation of transcutaneous electrical simulation to improve recovery from corneal hypoesthesia after LASIK.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy, and safety of transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TES) to accelerate corneal nerve regeneration and improved recovery from corneal hypesthasia after laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). SETTING: Khodadoust Eye Hospital, Shiraz, Fars, Iran METHODS: This prospective, randomized, clinical study comprised 40 eyes of 20 patients scheduled to undergo bilateral LASIK. Visual acuity recovery after late traumatic femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis flap loss.

We report a case of traumatic flap loss from a fingernail 2 months after femtosecond laser-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis. On presentation, the patient's uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 20/400 and complete flap avulsion was noted. Irrigation and treatment with mitomycin-C were done immediately, and a bandage contact lens was inserted. The epithelium healed completely over 1 week. One month after the injury, the UCVA was 20/15(-2). This case illustrates an excellent outcome from a potentially devastating event following refractive surgery in a military member.

Management of irregular astigmatism following rotationally disoriented free cap after LASIK.

PURPOSE: To illustrate the challenges associated with a misaligned free flap (cap) and to report the outcome of applying wavefront-guided customized photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) followed by conventional PRK ablation to correct residual refractive error and aberrations after LASIK free cap complications. METHODS: The clinical course and surgical interventions of two patients with free cap complications from LASIK surgery were reviewed. The first patient underwent a total of six interventions after the initial LASIK procedure, and the second patient underwent a total of five interventions.

[Epithelial complications of sub-flap intrastromal photo-kerato ablation for correction of ametropia: causes, therapy, prophylaxis].

The causes of epithelial complications are evaluated from clinical viewpoint and approaches to their elimination in laser operations are developed. The study included analysis of 3227 intrastromal ablation operations performed by the LASIK and REIK methods in 1725 patients with myopia (spheroequivalent -6.47 +/- 2.23 diopters) and hypermetropia (spheroequivalent +4.57 +/- 1.88 diopters). Laser keratoablation was carried out on an EC 5000 device (Nidek, Japan). Lamellar keratomileusis was carried out with a Hansatome Chiron Vision 230 HT-TM microkeratotome (USA). Late-Onset Chronic Corneal Fistula Following Phototherapeutic Keratectomy: A Case Report and Importance of Early Detection.

BACKGROUND We report a case of late-onset chronic fistula in a decompensated cornea after multiple ocular surgeries and a recent phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK). CASE REPORT A 73-year-old woman presented to our service with a past ocular history of bilateral chronic angle closure glaucoma and pseudophakic bullous keratopathy in the left eye. Given a history of long-term uncontrolled glaucoma with advanced disc cupping and poor visual potential, the patient underwent multiple palliative procedures, including, most recently, a PTK. Few years later she presented with a spontaneous late onset o

A Multicenter Study on Early Outcomes of Small-Incision Lenticule Extraction for Myopia.

This study was aimed to investigate the early clinical outcomes of small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) to correct both myopia and myopic astigmatism at major clinical centers in Japan. This case series consisted of two hundred fifty-two eyes of 130 consecutive patients who underwent SMILE surgery (29.5 ± 6.3 years, mean age ± standard deviation), with spherical equivalents of -4.33 ± 1.61 D. We determined the safety, efficacy, predictability, stability, and adverse events of this procedure. Corrected distance visual acuity significantly improved, from -0.18 ± 0.04 preoperatively to -0.

Early outcomes after small incision lenticule extraction and photorefractive keratectomy for correction of high myopia.

We prospectively compared visual and refractive outcomes in patients with high myopia and myopic astigmatism after small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and photorefractive keratetctomy (PRK) with mitomycin C. Sixty-six eyes of 33 patients (mean age, 29.7 ± 5.6 years) were included (SMILE: 34 eyes, PRK 32 eyes). Geometrical analysis of the loss of ablation efficiency at non-normal incidence.

A general method to analyze the loss of ablation efficiency at non-normal incidence in a geometrical way is provided. The model is comprehensive and directly considers curvature, system geometry, applied correction, and astigmatism as model parameters, and indirectly laser beam characteristics and ablative spot properties. The model replaces the direct dependency on the fluence by a direct dependence on the nominal spot volume and on considerations about the area illuminated by the beam, reducing the analysis to pure geometry of impact. Compensation of the loss of ablation efficiency at non-no
