Advancing PFAS Detection through Machine Learning Prediction of 19F NMR Spectra.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent environmental pollutants with diverse structures. To further advance the impact assessment and remediation technology for PFAS pollution, new approaches for identifying emerging PFAS are necessary. While 19F nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has unique advantages in analyzing PFAS in complex sample matrices, the spectra interpretation remains challenging due to the limited reference data. Herein, we address this significant knowledge gap using machine learning (ML) to predict 19F NMR chemical shifts of PFAS. We curated a dat

Classifying kidney disease using a dense layers deep learning model.

Early diagnosis and thorough management techniques are crucial for people with chronic kidney disease (CKD), a crippling and potentially fatal condition. Research has focused a lot on machine learning and deep learning systems for the detection of kidney diseases. Deep learning platforms like hidden layers, activation functions, optimizers, and epochs are also necessary for the automatic detection of these diseases. The proposed model achieved 99 % accuracy, with a precision, recall, and F1 score of 0.99, indicating highly reliable performance. Additionally, the model demonstrated strong agree

Attention-enhanced hybrid U-Net for prostate cancer grading and explainability.

Prostate cancer remains a leading cause of mortality, necessitating precise histopathological segmentation for accurate Gleason Grade assessment. However, existing deep learning-based segmentation models lack contextual awareness and explainability, leading to inconsistent performance across heterogeneous tissue structures. Conventional U-Net architectures and CNN-based approaches struggle with capturing long-range dependencies and fine-grained histopathological patterns, resulting in suboptimal boundary delineation and model generalizability. To address these limitations, we propose a transfo

Evaluating robustly standardized explainable anomaly detection of implausible variables in cancer data.

OBJECTIVES: Explanations help to understand why anomaly detection algorithms identify data as anomalous. This study evaluates whether robustly standardized explanation scores correctly identify the implausible variables that make cancer data anomalous. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The dataset analyzed consists of 18 587 truncated real-world cancer registry records containing 8 categorical variables describing patients diagnosed with bladder and lung tumors. We identified 800 anomalous records using an autoencoder's per-record reconstruction error, which is a common neural network-based anomaly dete

Machine learning assisted multi-signal nanozyme sensor array for the antioxidant phenolic compounds intelligent recognition.

Identifying antioxidant phenolic compounds (APs) in food plays a crucial role in understanding their biological functions and associated health benefits. Here, a bifunctional Cu-1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (Cu-BTC) nanozyme was successfully prepared. Due to the excellent laccase-like behavior of Cu-BTC, it can catalyze the oxidation of various APs to produce colored quinone imines. In addition, Cu-BTC also exhibits excellent peroxidase-like behavior, which can catalyze the oxidation of colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to form blue oxidized TMB and exhibits higher photothermal

Automated microscopy in forensic biology: Validating the use of deep neural networks for the detection of human spermatozoa in Christmas Tree stained slides.

The most widely accepted technique for the confirmation of semen presence in forensic biology is the microscopic identification of sperm cells. The process of manual microscopic examination, however, can often be time consuming, particularly where sperm numbers are low or where sperm cells are absent, particularly when in the presence of numerous non-sperm cells. The findings of this study demonstrate that automated microscopy utilising Deep Neural Network (DNN) allows for an improvement of the efficiency of examination times associated with microscopy. Additionally, the use of instrument and

Artificial Intelligence Framework for Automated Facial Asymmetry Detection Using Key-Point Analysis and Neural Networks.

Accurate facial asymmetry assessment is essential in orthodontics, maxillofacial surgery, and plastic surgery. While minor asymmetry is common, severe cases often result from congenital conditions or trauma. Traditional methods struggle to comprehensively quantify asymmetry's extent and direction. This study developed and compared artificial neural networks (ANN) and Siamese neural networks (SNN) to detect facial asymmetry and determine deviation direction (horizontal/vertical). A dataset of 1200 frontal photographs, annotated by three orthodontists, was used. The MediaPipe model facilitated f

Low-rank distribution embedding of dynamic thermographic data for breast cancer detection.

Dynamic infrared thermography has emerged as a robust adjunctive modality for early-stage breast cancer screening, complementing clinical breast examination (CBE) through its capacity to capture physiologic alterations in breast tissue. By enabling the extraction of thermal biomarkers indicative of vasodilation, thermography provides a noninvasive means of detecting vascular and metabolic abnormalities. Heterogeneous thermal distributions often reflect angiogenesis-the neovascularization process widely recognized as a hallmark of malignant transformation. This study systematically evaluates co

Unsupervised machine learning solutions for electroosmotically driven Casson hybrid nanofluid flow using sigmoid and Fibonacci neural networks: a biomedical approach.

This work investigates the electroosmotic peristaltic transport of a Casson (blood)-based hybrid nanofluid Fe2O3-Cu via an asymmetric channel embedded inside a porous medium. The model takes into consideration electric and magnetic field effects, Ohmic heating, as well as velocity and thermal slip conditions. The governing equations are simplified and solved by employing unsupervised sigmoid-based neural networks (SNNs), Fibonacci-based neural networks (FNNs), and their hybrid model (FSNNs) under the assumptions of low Reynolds number and long wavelength. Furthermore, a comparative analysis is

ProtoMAP: prototypical network based few-shot learning for missed abortion prediction.

Missed abortion is a prevalent issue in clinical practice, posing both physical risks to the mother and substantial psychological impact. Accurately predicting the risk of missed abortion is essential for guiding timely clinical interventions and safeguarding maternal health. Data on missed abortion are scarce and imbalanced. Given the limited clinical data and the nonlinear interrelationships among multiple features, traditional machine learning methods often fail to capture essential patterns, thereby their prediction performance is suboptimal. This paper proposes a prototype network based o

OSAM-NET: A multi-feature fusion model for measuring fetal head flexion during labor with transformer multi-head self-attention.

Fetal head flexion is essential during labor. The current assessment presents technical challenges for unskilled ultrasound operators. Therefore, the study aimed to propose an occiput-spine angle measurement network (OSAM-NET) to improve the accuracy and intrapartum applicability of fetal head flexion assessment. We used YOLOv8 to extract key anatomical structures (occiput and spine) and Vision Transformer to extract global features on ultrasound images of the posterior mid-sagittal section of the fetus (PMSF). Then, by fusing the geometric location information and global features through the

Numerical approximation of fractional order HIV/AIDS model with treatment using Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation approach.

HIV specifically targets the immune system's T cells, mainly the CD4+ T cells, leading to a chronic and severe illness characterized by a long incubation period. In this study, we propose a novel nonlinear fractional-order model for analyzing and controlling HIV proliferation dynamics. The model categorizes the HIV-infected population into four distinct compartments: susceptible individuals (S), acutely infected (I1), asymptomatically infected (I2), and individuals with AIDS (A). Mathematical properties like positivity and boundedness provide for model validation. The analytical strategy blend
