Reducing Hormonal Inputs in Rabbit Reproduction: Physical Ovulation Induction with a 3D-Printed Cannula.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of a 3D-printed cannula in inducing ovulation in female rabbits without exogenous GnRH analogues. A total of 325 inseminations were performed across different physiological stages: nulliparous, multiparous lactating, and multiparous non-lactating does. Two insemination methods were compared: a physical stimulation technique using the 3D-printed cannula and a control method involving hormonal induction with buserelin acetate. Females were either synchronized with eCG or left untreated. Delivery rates and litter sizes were recorded to assess fertility outco

Mental health during and after pregnancy in medically assisted reproduction: a danish cohort study.

PURPOSE: Infertility is common and an increasing number of women go through medically assisted reproduction (fertility treatment) to achieve pregnancy. This may affect mental health. We examined if fertility treatment and the specific fertility treatment method used (in vivo or in vitro) were associated with impaired mental health during or after pregnancy. METHODS: Using self-reported data from the Odense Child Cohort, we assessed prenatal stress by the 10-item Cohen Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) during pregnancy at median gestational week 27 and postnatal depressive symptoms by the Edinbu…

Delayed transitions to adulthood and assisted reproduction: A study of educational differences in Spain.

Transitions to adulthood are increasingly delayed in low-fertility countries, particularly among highly educated women, with significant implications for the timing of attempts to conceive and parenthood. Delayed childbearing increases the risk of infertility and the reliance on assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Spain has experienced pronounced delays in transitions to adulthood alongside a substantial rise in ART use over recent decades. This research adopts a life course approach to examine the association between delayed transitions to adulthood, the likelihood of using ART, and the

Perinatal risks associated with infertility and medically assisted reproduction: a population-based cohort study.

STUDY QUESTION: Are the risks of adverse perinatal outcomes in singletons born from medically assisted reproduction (MAR) mainly associated with underlying parental infertility, or are they primarily linked to the MAR treatments? SUMMARY ANSWER: While MAR-conceived singletons have increased risks of preterm birth, admission to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and hospital admission in early life, these risks are mainly associated with the underlying parental infertility that led to the use of MAR technologies. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Children born from MAR are at increased risk for some a…

The intersection of epilepsy and assisted reproduction: A review of therapeutic approaches and considerations.

OBJECTIVE: Women with epilepsy (WWE) have unique reproductive problems due to interactions among seizures, antiseizure medications (ASMs), and endocrine changes. These interactions can cause infertility, menstrual dysfunction, and an increased risk for reproductive endocrine disorders. Assisted reproductive technologies (ART), offer a hope for WWE seeking pregnancy but raise questions about seizure control, drug interactions, and pregnancy outcomes. This review aims to discuss the challenges associated with the use of ART in WWE. METHODS: A narrative review was conducted through PubMed, MEDLI

Neurodevelopmental delays in children born after medically assisted reproduction: a national population cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Importance: The neurodevelopmental outcomes of children born after medically assisted reproduction remain incompletely characterized on a population level. We were to assess the incidence and relative risk of neurodevelopmental delay in the children of infertile women born after unassisted conception, intrauterine insemination (IUI), and in vitro fertilization (IVF). METHOD: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the National Health Insurance Service database of South Korea from October 2017 through December 2023. The study included 115 839 singleton, full-term, non-low-b…

[Overview of the new EULAR recommendations on antirheumatic therapy in reproduction, pregnancy and lactation].

In April 2025, the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) published recommendations on the use of antirheumatic drugs in the reproductive phase, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. The previous EULAR Points to Consider from 2016 were updated and replaced. The task force formulated five overarching principles and twelve recommendations for the use of antirheumatic drugs before and during pregnancy, while breastfeeding and in male patients. The overarching principles emphasise the great importance of effective control of disease activity during pregnancy and breastfeedi

Medically assisted reproduction significantly affects the expression of microRNA associated with adverse obstetric outcomes.

RESEARCH QUESTION: Do normal term pregnancies conceived by medically assisted reproduction (MAR) differ in the expression of microRNA associated with adverse obstetric outcomes compared with normal term pregnancies after natural conception, and are there differences in microRNA expression profiles between MAR groups? DESIGN: This retrospective case-control study examined 103 pregnancies conceived by MAR and 79 pregnancies conceived naturally. The expression of 29 microRNA associated with adverse obstetric outcomes was evaluated in maternal peripheral blood leukocytes collected at 10-13 weeks …

Energy Reserve Allocation in the Trade-Off between Migration and Reproduction in Fall Armyworm.

Striking a trade-off between migration and reproduction becomes imperative during long-range migration to ensure proper energy allocation. However, the mechanisms involved in this trade-off remain poorly understood. Here, we used a takeoff assay to distinguish migratory from non-migratory individuals in the fall armyworm, which is a major migratory insect worldwide. Migratory females displayed delayed ovarian development and flew further and faster than non-migratory females during tethered flight. Transcriptome analyses demonstrated an enrichment of fatty acid genes across successive levels o…

Long-term effect of exposure to triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) on male mouse reproduction.

Our study investigated the impact on male mouse fertility and reproduction of long-term (14 weeks) exposure to triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), a co-monomer of resin-based compounds, at doses of 0.01, 0.1, 1, and 10 ppm. Test and control mice were then paired with sexually mature untreated female mice and their fertility evaluated. Females paired with males exposed to all TEGDMA doses exhibited a significant decline in pregnancy rates, and significant increases in the total embryonic resorption-to-implantation ratio, except for males exposed to 0.01 ppm TEGDMA. Males in the highest …

Irisin in Reproduction: Its Roles and Therapeutic Potential in Male and Female Fertility Disorders.

The current study focused on identifying the potential of irisin in mammalian reproduction. The established role of irisin, a proteolytic product of FNDC5, in adipose tissue browning, energy metabolism, and thermogenesis suggests its role in reproductive health, often disturbed by metabolic imbalances. Various studies on mice demonstrated irisin's role in improving spermatogenesis, sperm count, and testosterone levels by influencing the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis. Moreover, in females, there is a fluctuation in levels of irisin during critical reproductive stages, including menstrual …

Autosomally dominantly inherited isolated gonadotropin deficiency via maternal assisted reproduction due to SOX10 mutation.

OBJECTIVES: Kallmann syndrome (KS) is a rare genetic disorder marked by hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and either anosmia or hyposmia. It exhibits genetic heterogeneity, with mutations identified in only 30 % of cases, involving various genes such as KAL1, FGFR1, FGF8, CHD7, and SOX10. Here, we present a case of gonadotropin deficiency associated with KS, observed in both a mother and her daughter, the latter conceived through assisted reproductive technology using the mother's ovum. CASE PRESENTATION: A 12-year-old female presented with short stature and lack of growth over the past year. Ini

Heat Stress as a Barrier to Successful Reproduction and Potential Alleviation Strategies in Cattle.

In recent decades, the adverse effects of global warming on all living beings have been unanimously recognized across the world. A high environmental temperature that increases the respiration and rectal temperature of cattle is called heat stress (HS), and it can affect both male and female reproductive functions. For successful reproduction and fertilization, mature and healthy oocytes are crucial; however, HS reduces the developmental competence of oocytes, which compromises reproduction. HS disturbs the hormonal balance that plays a crucial role in successful reproduction, particularly in …
