Impact of low intensity pulsed ultrasound on volumetric root resorption of maxillary incisors in patients treated with clear aligner therapy: A retrospective study.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the volumetric root resorption in maxillary incisors following clear aligner therapy (CAT) with low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS), and compare the results to CAT alone. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective study evaluated pretreatment (T0) and post-treatment (T1) cone-beam computed tomography imaging of 42 adult patients. Twenty-one patients (14 females, 7 males, mean age= 38.1±12.96 years) were treated using CAT with LIPUS device, whereas the other twenty-one matching controls patients (15 females, 6 males, mean age= 35.6±11.7 years)

Coronectomy - oral surgery's answer to modern day conservative dentistry.

Removal of mandibular third molars is a common oral surgery procedure which is associated with a significant risk of injury to the inferior dental nerve (IDN). In an era of conservative dentistry the technique of coronectomy, which is conservative in terms of surgery and successful in minimising the incidence of IDN injury, has been met with some resistance and has been deemed non-ideal and controversial by many oral surgeons. This article outlines the benefits of coronectomy and highlights some examples from other dental specialities that have embraced conservative principles, despite their d

KBG syndrome: clinical features and specific dental findings.

PURPOSE: This investigation sought to identify the common manifestations of KBG syndrome in the literature and to determine the major oral abnormalities in a 12-year-old Chinese boy. METHODS: PUBMED search, using the keyword phrase "KBG syndrome," produced 20 articles. Due to the disparities in the quality of evaluations in the reports, any physical feature that was not discussed was assumed to be absent. RESULTS: Of the 54 cases, including the present case, 36 (67%) were males. Mental retardation or global developmental delay was reported in 42 (78%) cases, while 46 (85%) exhibited shortnes

Forced eruption of maxillary incisor teeth from the lingual side.

A major disadvantage in using the forced eruption technique is the necessity for the placement of an unesthetic orthodontic appliance, especially when the tooth involved is a maxillary incisor. The aim of this article is to present two alternative simple, specific task-oriented devices that may be placed on the lingual side of the teeth and may be used in the anterior of the mouth without compromising appearance.

In vivo fluoride profiles at different sites of buccal and lingual enamel surfaces obtained by enamel biopsy of human maxillary first permanent molars in young adults.

Twenty male volunteers, average age 24 years, participated in this study. Specimens were obtained by enamel biopsy using 5 microliters of 0.5 M HClO4 for 30 s. Using a regression curve, comparisons of fluoride concentrations were made at different depths. The fluoride concentrations (mean +/- SE) at a depth of 5 microns were highest in the distobuccal (1698 +/- 136), high in the mesiobuccal (1343 +/- 122), low in the distolingual (1119 +/- 107), and lowest in the mesiolingual sites (819 +/- 78). Of the interior enamels (> or = 10 microns in depth), the distobuccal site (1330 +/- 88 parts/10(6)

Three-Dimensional Correlation Between Impacted Maxillary Canine Angulation and Root Resorption of Adjacent Lateral Incisors: A CBCT Study.

Background: Impacted maxillary canines frequently cause external root resorption of adjacent lateral incisors, a complication that may compromise tooth survival and orthodontic outcomes. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) enables precise three-dimensional assessment of canine position and resorption severity, yet the quantitative relationship between canine angulation and resorption remains incompletely characterized. Objectives: The objectives were to quantify the correlation between impacted maxillary canine angulation relative to the vertical reference line and the severity of adjacent la

Vital Pulp Therapy in Cats: 47 Cases (2009-2025).

Vital pulp therapy (VPT) is a dental procedure aimed at preserving tooth vitality after pulp exposure by removing part of the exposed coronal pulp and placing a protective pulp dressing material directly over the remaining pulp, followed by a tightly sealed restoration to prevent bacterial leakage at the restoration-dentin interface. Indications include recent complicated crown fracture (CCF) or traumatic malocclusion in mature, as well as immature, permanent teeth. This retrospective study evaluated the outcome of 47 teeth in 36 cats treated with VPT at a referral clinic between 2009 and 2025

Direct radiation damage to human tooth under IMRT for head and neck cancer: physicochemical evidence supporting a non-salivary mechanism for radiation-related caries.

Radiation-related dental caries (RRC) is a rapidly progressing and treatment-resistant condition commonly observed after head and neck radiotherapy. It has traditionally been attributed to radiation-induced salivary gland dysfunction; however, RRC often develops even when appropriate oral care is provided, including fluoride application and regular hygiene practices. This clinical inconsistency suggests that salivary dysfunction alone cannot fully explain the onset and severity of RRC. The direct physicochemical effects of radiation on the organic and inorganic components of dental hard tissue

Light-force technique for the early treatment of an ectopic tooth.

Free crown tipping can be useful when teeth do not erupt in their physiologic sequence and a real intraosseous migration and eruption of a single tooth into a distant ectopic position can be observed. This article presents a case of an ectopic mandibular lateral incisor treated early, with the light-force technique and uncontrolled forces, and finished with the bidimensional edgewise appliance. A Caucasian female patient, 10 years 10 months of age, had a mandibular left lateral incisor displacement, with the lateral incisor crown positioned mesial to left second primary molar. An early treatme

[A study on interdental spaces of the deciduous dental arch in Indian sample].

The primate spaces are described as a genetic characteristic of all primate dentitions. In homo sapiens, they are limited to the deciduous dentition. We have now investigated the prevalence of primate spaces and interdental spaces in the deciduous dentition by sex and arch in samples from Indian children and the relationship between these spaces and other morphological characteristics of the deciduous dental arches. The samples were taken from 55 school children, 26 males and 29 females aged 5-7 years, belonging to the middle class of socio-economic status and living in New Delhi. The samples

Nonsurgical Management of Horizontal Root Fracture with Necrotic Apical Segment and Coronal Cervical Abfraction using Mineral Trioxide Aggregate: Case Report.

Horizontal root fractures are relatively rare dental findings and often pose diagnostic and treatment challenges. In addition to a horizontal root fracture, this case report also demonstrates a finding of a noncarious cervical abfraction lesion, which involves the loss of dental hard tissue from the cervical areas of teeth through processes unrelated to caries. A 22 -year-old healthy female patient was complaining of the maxillary left first premolar area with a history of dental trauma. Clinically, the tooth presented with a noncarious cervical abfraction lesion. Endodontic testing showed a n

Robot-Assisted Endodontic Retreatment: A Case Report with Clinical Considerations.

Fiber posts present significant challenges for nonsurgical endodontic retreatment, as improper removal may result in iatrogenic root perforation or even root fracture. Recently, robotic technology has attracted considerable attention in dentistry and active dental robotic (ADR) systems can perform procedures based on preset instructions, minimizing reliance on the dentist's experience. This case report describes the application of an ADR system for fiber post removal through an existing zirconia crown. A 26-year-old female was diagnosed with previously treated, symptomatic apical periodontitis
