This report describes an unusual case of a 9-year-old boy with a 6-month history of right lower eyelid lesion and excoriation of the adjoining skin that had not responded to topical treatment. The umbilicated lesion was electively excised and the base of the lesion was cauterized under general anesthesia, which resulted in complete resolution of the periocular dermatitis without additional treatment. BACKGROUND: The link between guttate psoriasis and streptococcal infection is acknowledged. BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis has been shown to be associated with neurogenic and psychosocial factors. In related atopic diseases such as rhinitis or asthma, a shift in autonomic balance towards a parasympathetic modulation has been described. On the other hand, the psychiatric symptoms known for atopic dermatitis are often associated with decreased vagal modulation. Nickel sulfate is the most frequently detected cause of allergic contact dermatitis in the world; the prevalence of nickel allergic contact dermatitis is between 8 and 11% in the general female population. Although it is well recognized that environmental factors are important in the pathogenesis of this dermatitis, some investigators have hypothesized that genetic factors are important as well. This review summarizes animal and human studies evaluating genetic factors in the development of allergic contact dermatitis from nickel.

Common diaper dermatitis is an irritant contact diaper dermatitis (IDD) created by the combined influence of moisture, warmth, urine, feces, friction, and secondary infection. It is difficult to completely eradicate these predisposing factors in a diapered child. Thus, IDD presents an ongoing therapeutic challenge for parents, family physicians, pediatricians, and dermatologists. This article will focus on practical management strategies for IDD.

Acrylates are a well-known cause of occupational contact dermatitis due to its widespread use in several settings such as dentistry, orthopaedic surgery, graphic industry and cosmetics. We describe the case of a manicurist who developed occupational rhinitis and allergic contact dermatitis induced by the application of acrylic-sculptured nails.

Granuloma annulare is a benign idiopathic disorder of the dermis that has various clinical presentations and an unknown etiology. We discuss a patient who presented with a contact dermatitis that demonstrated granuloma annulare on biopsy. The most likely etiologic agent was a substance known as FAZ (an exhaust product of Kodak DryView laser imaging film), to which the patient was exposed in his occupation.

Our objective was to study both incidence and various strains of Malassezia in infantile seborrheic dermatitis (ISD). Sixty infants between 2 weeks and 2 years old with clinical diagnosis of ISD at the Department of Pediatrics, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital from May 2002 to April 2003 were recruited.
