Optimization of Flavonoid Extraction from Abelmoschus manihot Flowers Using Ultrasonic Techniques: Predictive Modeling through Response Surface Methodology and Deep Neural Network and Biological Activity Assessment.

Understanding the optimal extraction methods for flavonoids from Abelmoschus manihot flowers (AMF) is crucial for unlocking their potential benefits. This study aimed to optimize the efficiency of flavonoid extraction from AMF. After comparing extraction methods, the ultrasonic cell crusher demonstrated superior performance over conventional techniques. Four key factors-solid-to-liquid ratio (1:10 to 1:50 g·mL-1), ethanol concentration (55% to 95%), ultrasonic time (10 to 50 min), and ultrasonic power (5% to 25% of 900 W)-were investigated and normalized using the entropy weight method. ConTEXTual Net: A Multimodal Vision-Language Model for Segmentation of Pneumothorax.

Radiology narrative reports often describe characteristics of a patient's disease, including its location, size, and shape. Motivated by the recent success of multimodal learning, we hypothesized that this descriptive text could guide medical image analysis algorithms. We proposed a novel vision-language model, ConTEXTual Net, for the task of pneumothorax segmentation on chest radiographs. ConTEXTual Net extracts language features from physician-generated free-form radiology reports using a pre-trained language model. We then introduced cross-attention between the language features and the int

Prediction of multiclass surgical outcomes in glaucoma using multimodal deep learning based on free-text operative notes and structured EHR data.

OBJECTIVE: Surgical outcome prediction is challenging but necessary for postoperative management. Current machine learning models utilize pre- and post-op data, excluding intraoperative information in surgical notes. Current models also usually predict binary outcomes even when surgeries have multiple outcomes that require different postoperative management. This study addresses these gaps by incorporating intraoperative information into multimodal models for multiclass glaucoma surgery outcome prediction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We developed and evaluated multimodal deep learning models for m

Quantitative analysis of molecular transport in the extracellular space using physics-informed neural network.

The brain extracellular space (ECS), an irregular, extremely tortuous nanoscale space located between cells or between cells and blood vessels, is crucial for nerve cell survival. It plays a pivotal role in high-level brain functions such as memory, emotion, and sensation. However, the specific form of molecular transport within the ECS remain elusive. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a novel approach to quantitatively analyze the molecular transport within the ECS by solving an inverse problem derived from the advection-diffusion equation (ADE) using a physics-informed neural ne

Convolutional neural network model for automatic recognition and classification of pancreatic cancer cell based on analysis of lipid droplet on unlabeled sample by 3D optical diffraction tomography.

INTRODUCTION: Pancreatic cancer cells generally accumulate large numbers of lipid droplets (LDs), which regulate lipid storage. To promote rapid diagnosis, an automatic pancreatic cancer cell recognition system based on a deep convolutional neural network was proposed in this study using quantitative images of LDs from stain-free cytologic samples by optical diffraction tomography. METHODS: We retrieved 3D refractive index tomograms and reconstructed 37 optical images of one cell. From the four cell lines, the obtained fields were separated into training and test datasets with 10,397 and 3,47

Advancing medical imaging: detecting polypharmacy and adverse drug effects with Graph Convolutional Networks (GCN).

Polypharmacy involves an individual using many medications at the same time and is a frequent healthcare technique used to treat complex medical disorders. Nevertheless, it also presents substantial risks of negative medication responses and interactions. Identifying and addressing adverse effects caused by polypharmacy is crucial to ensure patient safety and improve healthcare results. This paper introduces a new method using Graph Convolutional Networks (GCN) to identify polypharmacy side effects. Our strategy involves developing a medicine interaction graph in which edges signify drug-drug

TMH: Two-Tower Multi-Head Attention neural network for CTR prediction.

Click-through rate (CTR) prediction is a term used to predict the probability of a user clicking on an ad or item and has become a popular research area in advertising. As the volume of Internet data increases, the labor costs of traditional feature engineering continue to rise. To reduce the dependence on feature interactions, this paper proposes a fusion model that combines explicit and implicit feature interactions, called the Two-Tower Multi-Head Attention Neural Network (TMH) approach. The model integrates multiple components such as multi-head attention, residual network, and deep neural

Automatic bright-field smear microscopy for diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis.

In recent decades, many studies have been published on the use of automatic smear microscopy for diagnosing pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Most of them deal with a preliminary step of the diagnosis, the bacilli detection, whereas sputum smear microscopy for diagnosis of pulmonary TB comprises detecting and reporting the number of bacilli found in at least 100 microscopic fields, according to the 5 grading scales (negative, scanty, 1+, 2+ and 3+) endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO). Pulmonary TB diagnosis in bright-field smear microscopy, however, depends upon the attention of a train

Windy events detection in big bioacoustics datasets using a pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network.

Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM), which involves using autonomous record units for studying wildlife behaviour and distribution, often requires handling big acoustic datasets collected over extended periods. While these data offer invaluable insights about wildlife, their analysis can present challenges in dealing with geophonic sources. A major issue in the process of detection of target sounds is represented by wind-induced noise. This can lead to false positive detections, i.e., energy peaks due to wind gusts misclassified as biological sounds, or false negative, i.e., the wind noise masks

Cocrystal Prediction of Nifedipine Based on the Graph Neural Network and Molecular Electrostatic Potential Surface.

Nifedipine (NIF) is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker primarily used to treat conditions such as hypertension and angina. However, its low solubility and low bioavailability limit its effectiveness in clinical practice. Here, we developed a cocrystal prediction model based on Graph Neural Networks (CocrystalGNN) for the screening of cocrystals with NIF. And scoring 50 coformers using CocrystalGNN. To validate the reliability of the model, we used another prediction method, Molecular Electrostatic Potential Surface (MEPS), to verify the prediction results. Subsequently, we performed a s

Detection of cardiac abnormalities from 12-lead ecg using complex wavelet sub-band features.

AIM OF THE STUDY: This research endeavours to optimize cardiac anomaly detection by introducing a method focused on selecting the most effective Daubechis wavelet families. The principal aim is to differentiate between cardiac states that are normal and abnormal by utilizing longer electrocardiogram (ECG) signal events based on the Apnea ECG dataset. Apnea ECG is often used to detect sleep apnea, a sleep disorder characterized by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep. By using machine learning methods, such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and different classifiers, the goal is

MMF-NNs: Multi-modal Multi-granularity Fusion Neural Networks for brain networks and its application to epilepsy identification.

Structural and functional brain networks are generated from two scan sequences of magnetic resonance imaging data, which can provide different perspectives for describing pathological changes caused by brain diseases. Recent studies found that fusing these two types of brain networks improves performance in brain disease identification. However, traditional fusion models combine these brain networks at a single granularity, ignoring the natural multi-granularity structure of brain networks that can be divided into the edge, node, and graph levels. To this end, this paper proposes a Multi-modal
