Concept analysis of well-dying among older adults living alone in the community: A hybrid model approach.

PURPOSE: With the increasing trends of an aging population and the rise in single-person households, understanding the concept of well-dying among older adults living alone has become increasingly important. This study aimed to systematically identify the concept of well-dying among older adults living alone. METHODS: Schwartz-Barcott and Kim's hybrid model for concept analysis was employed. In the theoretical phase, a literature review of 1,020 publications was conducted, and 13 relevant articles were selected. In the fieldwork phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with 12 older adults l

[Reducing the Care-Related Burdens of a Family Caregiver of a Person With Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Home-Based Case Management Program].

The long-term care of cognitively impaired patients with concomitant behavioral problems brings great stress and burdens to family caregivers. The present article describes a family caregiver with multiple chronic diseases who concurrently shouldered primary care responsibilities for her husband, a patient with mild cognitive impairment, problematic behaviors, and medication non-adherence issues. The period of care was between September 23rd and December 29th, 2015. Data on physiological, psychological, and social burdens were collected based on a stress process model for family caregiving. The Swedish version of the multidimensional scale of perceived social support (MSPSS)--a psychometric evaluation study in women with hirsutism and nursing students.

BACKGROUND: The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) is a short instrument, developed to assess perceived social support. The original English version has been widely used. The original scale has demonstrated satisfactory psychometric properties in different settings, but no validated Swedish version has been available. The aim was therefore to translate, adapt and psychometrically evaluate the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support for use in a Swedish context. METHOD: In total 281 participants accepted to join the study, a main sample of 127 women with hirs

Predictors of nursing home admission of individuals without a dementia diagnosis before admission - results from the Leipzig Longitudinal Study of the Aged (LEILA 75+).

BACKGROUND: In previous decades a substantial number of community-based studies mostly including dementia cases examined predictors of nursing home admission (NHA) among elderly people. However, no one study has analysed predictors of NHA for individuals without developing dementia before NHA. METHODS: Data were derived from the Leipzig Longitudinal Study of the Aged, a population-based study of individuals aged 75 years and older. 1,024 dementia-free older adults were interviewed six times on average every 1.4 years. Socio-demographic, clinical, and psychometric variables were obtained. Kapl

Reconstructing Social Participation in Rural Communities: A Qualitative Study of Community Nursing Practice.

Introduction Participation is a central outcome in community-based rehabilitation, particularly in aging societies where social isolation among older adults is increasing. Community nurses have emerged as key facilitators of social participation in community settings. However, the mechanisms through which community nurses reconstruct participation in everyday practice remain insufficiently understood. This study aimed to clarify how community nurses reconstruct and facilitate participation in community-based rehabilitation. Methods This retrospective qualitative study analyzed activity logs an

When Caring Hurts: The Buffering Role of Social Support in Emergency Department Nurses' Coping With Secondary Traumatic Stress.

BACKGROUND: Emergency department nurses routinely operate in fast-paced and emotionally charged environments, where constant exposure to trauma places them at significant risk for developing secondary traumatic stress. Robust coping mechanisms and supportive social networks serve as critical buffers against these psychological effects. AIM: This study explored how coping strategies and social support interact to influence secondary traumatic stress among emergency department nurses in Taiwan, emphasizing the mediating function of social support. METHODS: A cross-sectional design was applied

Promotion factors of emergency nurses' post-traumatic growth during the COVID-19 pandemic in Shanghai: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Since March 2022, Shanghai, China, has experienced a severe wave of SARS-CoV-2 transmission caused by the Omicron variant strain. The pandemic has severely constrained the local healthcare system. After treating critically ill COVID-19 patients, emergency nurses may experience some positive changes due to new insights or gains in their work, even if they have had traumatic experiences. This study aimed to explore the promoting factors of emergency nurses' post-traumatic growth during the COVID-19 pandemic in Shanghai. We hoped to provide a new perspective and theoretical basis for

Pain assessment by emergency nurses at triage in the emergency department: A qualitative study.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To investigate the assessment of pain intensity in the specific context of triage. BACKGROUND: Acute pain affects most patients admitted to emergency departments, but pain relief in this setting remains insufficient. Evaluation of pain and its treatment at the time of patient triage expedites the administration of analgesia, but may be awkward at this time-pressured moment. The assessment of pain intensity by a validated pain scale is a critical initial step, and a patient's self-reporting is widely considered as the key to effective pain management. According to good pra

How Nurses Use Telehealth to Support Health Transitions of Older Adults.

UNLABELLED: When people with long term health issues transition from illness to health, or move from hospital to home after an exacerbation they feel vulnerable, unsafe, uncertain, lost, and unsupported. Transitions are life experiences that result in change. Telehealth gives easier access to care and increases patient involvement and self-awareness for self-care and improved outcomes. The purpose of our research was to explore how telehealth tools and processes lend themselves to nursing of patients through transitions. METHODS: A multimethod study with before and after questionnaires consis

Standardising written informed consent forms to improve patient care: a quality improvement project.

Informed consent is a critical component of patient-centred care, yet variability in its delivery can undermine patient understanding, satisfaction and autonomy. In practice, however, the process is often hindered by high clinical workloads, time pressures and the absence of a standardised approach, which can lead to incomplete explanations, variability in practice and reduced patient comprehension. This project aimed to improve patient understanding and satisfaction with bedside procedures by introducing a standardised informed consent process. This study was conducted at Hamad General Hospita

Derivation of Patient-Defined Adverse Cardiovascular and Noncardiovascular Events Through a Modified Delphi Process.

IMPORTANCE: There is little evidence to support patient-centered outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease. OBJECTIVE: To derive patient-defined adverse cardiovascular and noncardiovascular events (PACE) through a consensus-based process. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This pan-Canadian, consensus-based, qualitative study used an iterative Delphi method to achieve consensus within a 35-member panel consisting of patients with cardiovascular diseases and their caregivers and clinicians. The process included 4 rounds of online questionnaires, followed by an in-person final consensus
