A normal phase (NP) high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed for analysis of paclitaxel incorporated in poly(sebacic-co-ricinoleic acid), a lipophilic polymer matrix utilized for preparation of an injectable formulation for the localized delivery of paclitaxel. Thin layer chromatography experiments revealed that separation of paclitaxel from the polymer is dependent on the eluting strength (solvent strength) of the mobile phase. A computer simulation program was used to optimize the separation for six kava pyrones and two unidentified components obtaining the best resolution and the shortest run time. The chiral separation of loxoprofen was achieved on a chiral column with UV and circular dichroism (CD) detection. The good resolution of four loxoprofen stereoisomers was obtained. The column used for the chiral separation was Chiralcel OJ column (250 x 4.6 mm) using hexane-2-propanol-trifluoroacetic acid (95:5:0.1), as an eluent. This in vitro study investigates the conditions under which "compound 305" is formed. Using HPLC, ESR as well as UV spectroscopy, "compound 305" was largely separated and characterized. It has an absorption peak at 314 nm, which changes after reoxygenation to shorter wavelengths within hours. The retention time of "compound 305" amounts to 10.93 +/- 0.042 min. A method for the simultaneous determination of losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide in tablets is described. The procedure, based on the use of reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, is linear in the concentration range 3.0-7.0 microg ml(-1) for losartan and 0.5-2.0 microg ml(-1) for hydrochlorothiazide, is simple and rapid and allows accurate and precise results. The limit of detection was 0.08 microg ml(-1) for losartan and 0.05 microg ml(-1) for hydrochlorothiazide.

Pharmacokinetic studies indicate that clearance of propofol, an anesthetic agent, is slower in greyhounds compared with other dog breeds. Biotransformation of propofol to 2,6-diisopropyl-1,4-quinol (4-hydroxypropofol) by cytochrome P-450 in the liver is proposed as a critical initial step in the elimination of this drug in dogs. A rapid, inexpensive, and accurate high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of pentisomide and its major mono-N-dealkylated metabolite has been developed. After a simple and inexpensive solvent extraction procedure, the unchanged drug, its metabolite, and the internal standard are separated using a C18 reversed-phase column with a 5-microns particle size. The eluent is monitored with ultraviolet detection at 260 nm. Endogenous substances or a variety of drugs do not interfere with the assay. We describe a fatality resulting from the ingestion of sodium azide. Initial routine toxicological screening of the blood showed a negative result, but pathological findings as well as findings at the scene itself led to the search for azide. Sensitivities at 5.5 deg off-fovea from the aphakic observer superimposed on orange, purple and blue fields were obtained to estimate short-, middle- and long-wavelength cone spectra respectively. The middle-wavelength mechanism had a visible wavelength maximum resembling a nomogram plus an UV sensitivity fitting a cis-peak.
