Genital verruciform xanthoma: A rare differential to genital warts.

Verruciform xanthoma is a rare, benign mucocutaneous growth, usually seen in the oral cavity, but uncommonly also seen on genital skin. It presents as a flat or raised skin lesion, varying in colour with an irregular surface. These lesions can mimic stigmata of sexually transmitted infections such HPV-genital warts, condyloma latum or cause concern for inflammatory or malignant conditions, with histopathology being crucial for diagnosis and to avoid anxiety or invasive procedures. Underlying cause of these lesions remains uncertain, but no link to HPV has been identified. We present an 89 year

Successful treatment of refractory oral condyloma acuminatum through laser-photodynamic therapy combination.

Condyloma acuminatum (CA) is a sexually transmitted disease primarily caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) infection, predominantly affecting the genital and anal regions. However, the occurrence of oral condyloma acuminatum (OCA) is relatively infrequent, although its incidence has been gradually rising in recent years. OCA presents unique challenges in terms of treatment efficacy and recurrence prevention due to its concealed location and distinctive anatomical characteristics. In this manuscript, we present a case study involving the use of laser combined with photodynamic therapy (PDT) fo

Immunocompromised women are at increased risk of having HPV detected and developing HPV-related diseases such as genital warts, anogenital dysplasia, and cancer. This review aims to summarize the current literature regarding the immunogenicity of the HPV vaccine in immunocompromised women and to discuss whether HPV vaccination may be able to reduce the risk of cervical dysplasia and cancer. HPV vaccination induces an immune response in these women; however, it is unknown whether vaccination is effective in reducing the risk of cervical dysplasia and cancer. Further research is needed.

Clinical Conundrum: A Case of Cervical Giant Condyloma Acuminatum.

Giant condyloma acuminatum (GCA) is a benign anogenital lesion caused by human papilloma virus. It is rarely found on the cervix and is difficult to differentiate from malignancy. It is associated with a propensity for invasion, recurrence, and malignant transformation. A 35-year-old woman presented with abnormal uterine bleeding and a suspicious cervical mass. After a Pap test revealed high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, cervical biopsies revealed cervical dysplasia. A diagnostic loop electrical excision procedure identified a giant condyloma. A total hysterectomy was performed, confi

Condyloma and coincidental epidermodysplasia verruciformis acanthoma positive for human papillomavirus-14 and -21.

Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EDV) is a rare genodermatosis that predisposes individuals to persistent infection with β-human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes. The term EDV acanthoma may be applied to lesions with incidental findings of EDV-defining histopathological features without clinical signs of EDV. We report a case of HPV-14- and -21-positive EDV acanthoma arising in association with condyloma in a female patient with a history of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion of the cervix positive for high-risk HPV (non-16/18), chronic kidney disease, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Incidence of anogenital warts after the introduction of the quadrivalent HPV vaccine program in Manitoba, Canada.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of anogenital warts (AGW) decreased after the introduction of the quadrivalent human papillomavirus (qHPV) vaccine in multiple jurisdictions. We studied how comparing AGW incidence rates with different outcomes affects the interpretation of the qHPV vaccination program. To do this, we replicated multiple study designs within a single jurisdiction (Manitoba). METHODS: We measured the incidence rates of AGW, AGW-related prescriptions, chlamydia, and gonorrhea (the latter two as sham outcomes) between 2001 and 2017 using several clinical and administrative health databa

Human Papillomavirus-type distribution in anogenital lesions of prepubertal children.

BACKGROUND: In contrast to adults, only limited data are available on the human papillomavirus (HPV)-type spectrum in anogenital warts (AGW) of children. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the HPV-type spectrum in AGW of prepubertal children. MATERIALS & METHODS: In a retrospective German multicentre study, HPV genotyping was performed in AGW biopsies of 55 1- to 12-year-old children using HPV group-specific PCRs followed by hybridization with type-specific probes or sequence analysis. RESULTS: Human papillomavirus-DNA was found in 53 of the 55 AGW. In 58.5% (31/53) of the HPV-positive

Anogenital warts and relationship to child sexual abuse: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: In children, distinguishing anogenital warts (AGW) acquired innocently from those acquired by child sexual abuse (CSA) is challenging. High-quality studies examining this relationship are sparse. Here, we sought to evaluate the association between AGW and sexual abuse in children 12 years of age and younger with respect to wart location, age, and gender. METHODS: A systematic review of Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science was performed for studies published on or before 2/16/2018. Studies were eligible for inclusion if they contained at least 10 patients 12 years ol

Predictors of human papillomavirus persistence or clearance after 5-aminolevulinic acid-based photodynamic therapy in patients with genital warts.

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have confirmed that 5-aminolevulinic acid-based photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) is an effective treatment for human papillomavirus-associated diseases. In this study, we evaluated the variables associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) persistence or clearance after ALA-PDT in patients with genital warts. METHODS: We performed a retrospective chart review of all patients with genital warts or subclinical HPV infection who received ALA-PDT treatment between January 2019 and December 2020 at Nanfang Hospital and Dermatology Hospital of Southern Medical University an

Podophyllotoxin-combined 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy significantly promotes HR-HPV-infected cell death.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and related diseases are difficult clinical challenges. The efficacy of 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) in treating condyloma acuminata is remarkable, with high virus clearance and low recurrence rates. Podophyllotoxin (POD) is the first-line drug with a significant therapeutic effect on condyloma acuminata. However, no studies have determined whether POD-combined ALA-PDT improves high-risk (HR)-HPV-infected cell killing. We aimed to investigate whether POD-combined ALA-PDT could promote HPV-infected cell death more effectiv

Nonavalent human papillomavirus vaccination as alternative treatment for genital warts.

Genital warts caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) are the most common sexually transmitted disease and have a negative impact on quality of life. Of the more than 200 different types of HPV, low-risk types 6 and 11 are mainly responsible for the development of condyloma acuminata. Despite a large arsenal of local therapies such as numerous topical agents, CO2 laser ablation, and surgical removal, genital warts tend to be recalcitrant. HPV vaccination is mainly used as a preventive strategy to prevent genital warts, cervical cancer, and other anogenital cancers. However, in a few cases, HP

[Unusual location of giant seborrhoeic keratoses].

Seborrhoeic keratoses (SK) are benign tumors that mainly occur in the head and in the trunk. Their size generally varies from a few millimeters up to a few centimeters. Giant lesions are very rare but pose a problem in terms both of treatment and transformation. Their occurrence in the genital area is even more rare, posing a problem in differential diagnosis of genital warts. Differentiation is only based on histopathology. We report the case of a 80-year old man, with no particular past medical history, who presented with asymptomatic abdominal and genital lesions evolving over the last twen
