Scrofuloderma is a type of secondary tuberculosis (TB) arising from contiguous involvement of skin by an underlying tuberculous focus in the lymph nodes or bones. It may occasionally be the presenting feature of osteoarticular TB. OBJECTIVE: To observe the therapeutic effect and safety of terbinafine in treating onychomycosis in children.
METHODS: Terbinafine was used to treat 50 children with fingernail onychomycosis and 38 with toenail onychomycosis, and the efficacy, fungal clearance and safety of the drug were evaluated.
RESULTS: The clinical cure rate and total effective rate were 92.1% and 97.37%, respectively, for fingernail onychomycosis, and 86.36% and 93.94% for toenail onychomycosis, with fungal clearance rate of 96.59%. No serious side-effects was observed in the children receiving terbinafine therapy.

A man whose psoriasis was well controlled on methotrexate treatment developed pellagra-like photosensitive dermatitis when he started taking haloperidol. Reactivation of his dermatitis was observed with methotrexate as a recall photosensitivity phenomenon. This false photosensitivity reaction of methotrexate is an important but rarely encountered adverse effect. A possible interaction between methotrexate and haloperidol is emphasised.

Xylene is widely used in medical technology, but there are many concerns about its safety. A 52-year-old woman, employed as a histotechnician, presented with burning, swollen hands. Patch testing and a visit to her place of work confirmed exposure and sensitivity, in the form of contact urticaria, to xylene. The use of xylene-resistant gloves resulted in clearing of the dermatitis. Establishing the diagnosis of contact urticaria from xylene allowed the patient to be cured of her dermatitis and continue working.

BACKGROUND: Occupational allergy to ornamental flowers is seldom reported.
METHODS: We report a case of a 35-year-old male flower supplier who developed IgE-mediated allergic rhinoconjunctivitis with nasal polyps, and contact urticaria and dermatitis after handling Gypsophila paniculata. Dianthus caryophillus, and Lilium longiflorum.

We report on a 32-year-old female patient undergoing peritoneal dialysis for diabetic nephropathy who developed blisters and cutaneous fragility on the dorsa of the hands. Histopathology of an early lesion showed a subepidermal cleft under a regular epidermis with single necrotic keratinocytes and normal dermal structures.
