Disconjugate eye torsion induced by 0 G and 1.8 G during parabolic flight was studied in nine former astronauts in 1990 and eight in 1991, four of whom were included in the previous experiment. The astronauts could be divided into two statistically significant groups on the basis of low and high scores of disconjugacy. PURPOSE: This study seeks to evaluate the comparative role of alpha-fluoromethylhistidine and diphenhydramine in the prevention of motion sickness.
METHOD: The role of histaminergic mechanisms in motion sickness were evaluated in a feline model. Twenty-six female cats were studied. A variety of doses of fluoromethylhistidine and diphenhydramine were administered before motion testing.
RESULTS: Fluoromethylhistidine was effective in preventing motion sickness. The efficacy was dose dependent. In contrast, diphenhydramine failed to prevent motion sickness in any of the tested doses.

Induced motion (IM) is illusory motion of a stationary test target opposite to the direction of the real motion of the inducing stimulus. We define egocentric IM as an apparent motion of the test target relative to the observer, and vection-entrained IM as an apparent motion of a stationary object along with an apparent motion of the self (vection) induced by the same stimulus. Changes in the blood plasma cyclic nucleotide (cAMP and cGMP) level under the effect of vestibuloprotectors: bemytil and etoxibemytil were studied in rats with experimental motion sickness. It is established that rotation causes increase in the cAMP level and decrease in the cGMP level. The effect of the vestibuloprotectors is determined by the dose of the drug and is aimed first of all at maintaining a stable cAMP level in vestibular exertion. Under conditions of this experiment etoxibemytil was more effective than bemytil.

The Arnold-Hilgartner roentgenographic method, categorizing hemophilic arthropathy into five stages, was evaluated in 270 hemophilic joints in terms of range of motion. This paper examines three approaches which have been suggested for predicting motion sickness incidence (MSI) for actual or simulated broadband ship motion.
