BACKGROUND: There are indications that methamphetamine production and illicit use are increasing. We investigated the epidemiology of methamphetamine use in trauma patients in an area of heavy methamphetamine prevalence.
STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective population-based review. We reviewed toxicology and alcohol test results in trauma patients admitted to the University of California, Davis, between 1989 and 1994 to the only trauma center serving a population of 1.1 million.

From 1993 to 1997, 22 semi-professional athletes (14 men and 8 women), aged 18-33 years (mountain bike racers, soccer players, handball players, swimmers, and short distance runners) with a non-union of the middle third of the clavicle were treated operatively by reconstruction plating and bone grafting. It was aimed to study injures from road traffic accidents in Bangkok Metropolis and identify patients' characteristics as well as to search for risk factors for traffic accidents leading to hospitalization. The study included 346 in-patient cases suffering injuries from road traffic accidents in Bangkok Metropolis. The patients were recruited during a period of 4 months of the year 1992 from five hospitals in various areas of Bangkok which were judged to be representative for Bangkok Metropolis. Using the method of case-reference, relative risk could be estimated for various exposure factors.

OBJECTIVES: This article aims to model fault in e-bike fatal crashes in a county-level city in China.
METHOD: Three-year crash data are retrieved from the crash reports (2012-2014) from the Taixing Police Department. A mixed logit model is introduced to explore significant factors associated with fault assignment, as well as accounting for similarity among fault assignment and heterogeneity within unobserved variables.

UNLABELLED: We present the case of a 39-year-old man who sustained an open talar fracture of the right lower extremity and a supracondylar traumatic amputation of the left lower extremity. We used osteochondral chips from the femoral condyles of the amputated extremity as an autologous graft to reconstruct the talus and fixated these with Barouk screws. Two years postsurgery, the patient was pain free and without functional limitations, and his American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Scale score was 92, despite showing radiographic evidence of ankle joint space narrowing.

We report a case of post traumatic thrombosis of the renal artery with renal infarction and associated liver injury. Conservative treatment was initially planned in consideration of the delayed diagnosis (> 3 hours), but the patient subsequently developed hypertension not controllable with anti-hypertensive drugs. He underwent laparoscopy with nephrectomy and liver injury repair. Hypertension resolved after nephrectomy without further medical treatment. Laparoscopic nephrectomy is not a standard procedure for renal trauma but it could be an option in selected patients.

A 15-year-old male died of cardiac rupture due to blunt chest trauma from a traffic accident involving a low-speed scooter carrying 3 people and a head-on collision with a tree. The victim was sitting on the footrest of the scooter. It was concluded that the victim was compressed between the handlebar of the scooter and the other 2 passengers, causing cardiac ruptures via bidirectional compression and intravascular hydrostatic pressure. The victim may have served as a cushion for the other 2 passengers, who were not thrown from the scooter and sustained only minor injuries.

This report describes the rare case of a traumatic rotator cuff tear in a young patient which led to a pseudo-paralyzed shoulder by interposition of the tendon stump into the glenohumeral joint. The patient underwent an open rotator cuff repair and regained an almost normal shoulder function after 12 weeks. A review of the literature is presented.

The records of 219 patients with spinal cord injuries admitted to the Siriraj Hospital. Bangkok from January to December 1994 were reviewed retrospectively. The average patient age was 32.8 years (range = 12-75 years); the male/female ratio was 5.6:1. The most common cause of injury was road traffic accident (50.7%), followed by falls (31%), assault (8.7%) and being hit by moving objects (7.8%).
