Parental acceptance-rejection and brain network connectivity: A naturalistic neuroimaging study.

Guided by interpersonal acceptance-rejection theory (IPARTheory), this study investigated whether young adults' memories of parental acceptance in childhood (feeling loved and cared about) versus memories of parental rejection (feeling unloved and not cared about) are associated with intrinsic brain connectivity. Forty participants (Mage = 19 years) completed self-report measures and underwent fMRI scanning watching naturalistic video stimuli. One group reported having been accepted by both parents in childhood and described themselves as psychologically well-adjusted (AcceptedAdjusted, n = 20

Procrastination as a neurocognitive syndrome: evidence from VBM, RSFC, and Temporal activation patterns in executive and Default-Mode networks.

Procrastination—the habitual postponement of intended tasks despite anticipating negative consequences—is increasingly understood as a neurocognitive syndrome rooted in affective, motivational, and executive dysregulation. This systematic literature review synthesizes findings from 23 neuroimaging studies involving a total of 6,087 participants, predominantly university students aged 16–26 years, to examine the structural, functional, and psychological underpinnings of academic procrastination. Using voxel-based morphometry (VBM), resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC), and task-based fM

Emotion regulation in binge eating disorder.

A review of the literature on emotion regulation in binge eating disorder (BED) published both in English and Polish between 1990 and 2020. BED might be considered as an impulsive and compulsive disorder associated with altered reward sensitivity and food-related attentional bias. The growing body of research indicated that there were corticostriatal circuitry alterations in BED, comparable to those observed in substance abuse, including altered function of orbitofrontal, prefrontal and insular cortices with the striatum included. Negative emotions and deficits in their regulation play a signi

Is fear of missing out (FOMO) differentially related to underlying dimensions of negative affectivity? Analyzing latent factors of rumination, depression, and negative affect.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The Fear of Missing Out on rewarding experiences (FOMO) is linked with increased and problematic social media use. FOMO is also robustly correlated with negative affectivity constructs. However, research has not yet examined FOMO's relations with underlying dimensions of negative affectivity variables, to discover more specific aspects of negative affectivity with which FOMO may be most related. DESIGN/METHODS: We analyzed data from 461 American university students for a web survey conducted in 2024, administering self-report scales assessing FOMO, rumination, negative

Reciprocal Relationships Between Perceived Teachers' Moral Grandstanding, Self-Esteem, and Rumination Among Chinese Primary School Students: An RI-CLPM Study.

Moral grandstanding is the use of moral talk driven by egotistical motives to promote oneself or display moral superiority. Although moral grandstanding has been extensively examined in political and public health contexts, its relevance to educational settings remains understudied, especially in teacher-student interactions where teachers serve as moral authorities for children. The present research adapted the Perceived Teachers' Moral Grandstanding Scale and examined its longitudinal associations with students' socioemotional processes. In the first step, the Moral Grandstanding Motivation

Correlation Between Rumination, Symptom Clusters, and Quality of Life in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Previous studies have demonstrated that individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) experience distinct symptom clusters and generally have a lower quality of life compared to the general population. Rumination refers to the persistent and repetitive contemplation of the causes, consequences, and intricate details of a negative and stressful event. The multiple symptom clusters of IBD cause great distress, physical and financial stress, and thus may increase the level of rumination in patients. However, the relationship between rumination, symptom clusters, and quality of life in IBD pat

The role of concreteness in repetitive negative thinking: Temporal dynamics and the predictive value for depression throughout psychological treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Repetitive negative thinking (RNT) is an important transdiagnostic process involved in the development and maintenance of depression. Evidence suggests that maladaptive RNT is characterised by reduced concreteness. However, the temporal relationship between concreteness of RNT and depressive symptoms, as well as changes in concreteness during psychological treatment, remain unclear. Therefore, the current study investigated (a) whether momentary RNT concreteness explains variance in the prediction of momentary depressive symptoms beyond momentary RNT, (b) whether momentary RNT co

The Path to Driving Aggression and Crash Risk: The Role of Metacognition and Anger Rumination in Anger Expression Among Chinese Drivers.

Driving anger and aggressive anger expression are prevalent in China, leading to road crashes. While potential associations between metacognitive beliefs about worry and control, anger rumination, and anger expression have been reported, limited research focuses on these relationships within the context of driving anger. This study aims to examine the associations between metacognition, anger rumination, driving-related anger (trait driving anger and aggressive anger expression) and crash risk (traffic penalty points and crash involvement), along with testing the psychometric properties of the

Ecological Validity of Grief Rumination Measures Among Bereaved People.

Grief rumination, characterised by repetitive thinking about the loss and its causes and consequences, is linked to various psychopathological symptoms, including prolonged grief disorder (PGD). Traditional assessments of grief rumination rely on trait self-report questionnaires assessing multiple types of rumination (e.g., reactions, injustice, counterfactuals and meaning), which may be susceptible to memory biases and often fail to capture the dynamic and context-dependent nature of ruminative thoughts. This brief report evaluates the ecological validity of trait versus state grief ruminatio

Functional organization of the allostatic interoceptive network in adolescence: Links to peer victimization and prospective depressive symptoms.

The present study examines the role of brain network organization in the prospective prediction of adolescent depressive symptoms and links to the social and psychological context. Using a path model with data from a larger longitudinal study of adolescents beginning in 6th-8th grade (N = 117, 55 % female, Mage at scan= 12.99), we first established that organizational properties of brain networks theoretically linked to depression predicted greater depressive symptoms two years later. Specifically, when controlling for gender and initial depression, greater global efficiency of the allostatic

The Interplay Between Emotion Dysregulation and Repetitive Thoughts in Insomnia Disorder: The Impact of Worry, Rumination and REM Sleep Instability.

While previous research has identified emotional dysregulation and repetitive thinking as contributors to insomnia, the interplay between these factors remains unclear. Building upon data previously collected in our laboratory, this exploratory study extends prior findings by examining the mediating role of rumination, worry and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep instability in the relationship between emotional dysregulation and the functional impact of insomnia and depressive symptoms, aiming to generate hypotheses about the psychological and neurophysiological mechanisms linking these construct

Gender difference in rumination subtypes connecting to depression.

PURPOSE: The prevalence of depression is higher in women than in men. This may be because women are more prone to rumination. However, there is a lack of evidence about which rumination symptoms are most strongly associated with depression in women. According to the network theory of mental disorders, the complex interaction between different subtypes of rumination and depressive symptoms is confusing. We utilized the network analysis method to examine the connection between different subtypes of rumination and depressive symptoms across different gender groups and to investigate gender differ

How I think about how I feel: Personal beliefs about emotion prospectively predict suicide-related outcomes and depression symptoms.

One transdiagnostic process that may be critical to depression and suicidal ideation is beliefs about the nature of one's own emotions, both concurrently and longitudinally. In a sample of community adults (n = 143), we assessed personal emotion beliefs about the degree to which one's own emotions are malleable, unique, and last a long time. There were significant associations between stronger views that one's own emotions were fixed, unique to you, and had a longer duration and higher clinical symptom severity, including higher levels of current suicidal ideation, and less adaptive emotion re
