Low-level light-assisted photodynamic therapy using a wearable cap-like device for the treatment of actinic keratosis of the scalp.

BACKGROUND: Daylight photodynamic therapy (dlPDT) is a painless and increasingly cost-effective treatment for actinic keratosis (AK). New protocols avoid incubation, minimizing pain and adverse events. However, it is time-consuming and dependent on specific weather conditions. In patients with AK of the scalp, we evaluated the efficacy of indoor photodynamic therapy (PDT) using a wearable low-level light therapy (LLLT) device, without pre-incubation with a photosensitizing agent. METHODS: In this pilot study, 27 patients with thin and moderately thick AK (Olsen Grades I-II) underwent a single

The efficacy of Australian essential oils for the treatment of head lice infestation in children: A randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The increase in resistance of head lice to neurotoxic pediculicides and public concern over their safety has led to an increase in alternative treatments, many of which are poorly researched or even untested. METHODS: A multicentre, randomised, assessor-blind, parallel-group trial (Trial 1) was conducted to compare the safety and efficacy of a head lice treatment containing Australian eucalyptus oil and Leptospermum petersonii (EO/LP solution; applied thrice with 7-day intervals between applications) with a neurotoxic treatment containing pyrethrins and piperonyl butoxide (P/PB mo

Improvement of Nail and Scalp Psoriasis Using Apremilast in Patients With Chronic Psoriasis: Phase 2b and 3, 52-Week Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial Results.

INTRODUCTION: A significant portion of patients with psoriasis have scalp and nail involvement. It has been reported that 40% to 45% of patients with psoriasis have nail psoriasis, and up to 80% have scalp involvement. Nail and scalp psoriasis have often been found to be difficult to treat, due to the poor penetration and poor compliance of topical medication. Oral and biologic therapies have shown significant efficacy but often with undesirable side effects. Herein, we analyze the efficacy of apremilast, an oral phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE-4) inhibitor, in the treatment of nail and scalp psorias

[Treatment of scalp psoriasis. An effective and safe tacalcitol emulsion].

BACKGROUND: The scalp is a problematic area in psoriasis where treatment is often difficult. The lesions often extend beyond the hairline to involve the forehead, neck and sensitive facial skin. Topical corticosteroids and potentially irritant topical preparations have only limited utility in these sensitive areas. Most of the patients additionally suffer from psychosocial problems due to the visibility of lesions. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this multicenter, prospective, randomized, double-blind study, was to assess efficacy, safety and tolerability of once daily tacalcitol emulsion (4 micro g/g)

[Plica polonica].

The author summarizes the essentials and history of the plica polonica disease and describes some of his own experiences in diagnosis and treatment. It is remarkable, that the monographs of the internal medicine and the hungarian monographs of dermatology, with the exception of two, didn't even mention this phenomenon in this century. Besides, no original publications can be found in the hungarian medical literature about this topic. However we can find people with this syndrome in Hungary also at the present time. It can be connected with the increasing ageing and growing poverty in our count
