Family systems theory was employed to study sibling relationships in 50 families with a child with autism. Typically developing siblings expressed satisfaction with their sibling relationships. BACKGROUND: Decisions concerning the treatment choice for assisted reproduction (IVF or ICSI) are usually made after the evaluation of male fertility factors, or after taking into account the results of previous IVF attempts. Neurologic and cognitive function in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) were assessed in a controlled pilot study of 13 pairs of siblings aged 6 to 27 years. One subject in each pair was affected with NF1, and the other, the control subject, was unaffected. Subjects with evidence of focal central nervous system disease were excluded. Gender-disturbed children (n = 14) were compared to their preadolescent siblings (n = 16) and psychiatric controls (n = 13) on a sex-typed free-play task previously shown to differentiate gender-disturbed boys from normal boys. Sleep polygraphic recording was carried out on 57 normal infants and on 100 SIDS siblings during morning naps between birth and the 4th month of life. The reproductive capability and labor complications of 98 women exposed to diethylstilbestrol (DES) in utero were compared with those of 3 separate control groups.
