Acral myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcoma: a low-grade tumor of the hands and feet.

Acral myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcoma is a unique low-grade tumor of modified fibroblasts. It characteristically occurs in the distal … mors of tendon sheath. Initial histologic diagnoses, in most cases, included pigmented villonodular tenosynovitis or various reactive fibroinflammatory processes. Histologically, the lesions were multinodular, poorly delineated, and characterized by a prominent myxoid matrix containing numerous inflammatory cells, including polymorphonuclear leukocytes, eosinop …

At 8 months after initial injury, MRI showed persistent mild tenosynovitis of the long head of the biceps tendon, interval accumulation of a large glenohumeral joint effusion, and infraspinatus tendinitis with subjacent reactive bone marrow edema. Clinical, biological and sonographic response to IL-1 blockade in adult-onset Still's disease.

BACKGROUND: Various studies, mainly conducted in adults, have examined the hormonal axis in primary empty sella (PES), and reported various forms of pituitary deficiencies. We report our experience with PES in pediatric patients in terms of pituitary function, associated impairments, and responses to treatment. METHODS: We reviewed 10,560 cranial and 325 pituitary magnetic resonance imagings (MRIs) performed at our university hospital between January 2010 and December 2020 and identified patients with PES. Patients with additional abnormal MRI findings, a history of cranial surgery or radioth

Retrospective study of open versus percutaneous surgery for trigger thumb in children.

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous release for trigger finger in adults is well established, but this is not so for trigger thumb in children. The traditional treatment for trigger thumbs in children, if conservative treatment has failed, is open surgery. The authors' aim is to recommend that percutaneous release may be more appropriate in the treatment of trigger thumb in children. METHODS: The authors performed a retrospective study of open versus percutaneous release for trigger thumb in children with a mean age of 2.4 years from December of 1984 to March of 2003. The 61 patients with 72 trigger thu

Blood supply of the peroneal tendons: injection and immunohistochemical studies of cadaver tendons.

We studied the vascular pattern of human peroneal tendons with injection techniques and immunohistochemically by using antibodies against laminin The main blood supply arises from the peroneal artery. The distal part of the peroneus longus tendon is supplied by branches of the medial tarsal artery. Blood vessels enter the peritenon of both tendons via a mesotenon from the posterior aspect. From the peritenon, the blood vessels penetrate the peroneus brevis and peroneus longus tendons and anastomose with a longitudinally-oriented intratendinous network. The amount of vessels in the tendon subst

Juvenile-onset spondyloarthropathies.

This article discusses the clinical spectrum and characteristics of juvenile-onset spondyloarthropathies and includes a review of the demographic, clinical, radiographic (and other imaging techniques), and laboratory data of conditions, syndromes, and diseases making up this group. The pathogenic role of several factors in the context of adult-onset patients, but also in regards to studies already performed in juvenile-onset patients, is discussed.

Ergonomic principles basic to hand tool design.

A survey of those features of hand tools relevant to the physical interaction between the implement and the human operator. Concepts basics to the optimization of forces are mentioned, followed by a description of some of the more common physiological problems and musculoskeletal complaints associated with improper hand tool and design and usage. An account of the distribution of contact pressures and possible consequences, if these are excessive, is followed by a description of the role of working gloves as related to ergonomic problems and their possible relationships to occupational disease

Case Report: Sequencing-supported probable osteoarticular Mycobacterium avium complex infection in rheumatoid arthritis.

BACKGROUND: Osteoarticular Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection is uncommon and can resemble inflammatory arthritis during immunosuppression. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 52-year-old woman with an erosive seronegative rheumatoid arthritis phenotype and overlap autoimmune features developed progressive polyarticular swelling, wrist tenosynovitis, hip effusions, and low-back pain after cumulative immunosuppression. Investigations showed macrocytic anemia, lymphopenia, pan-hypogammaglobulinemia, marked B-cell depletion without anti-CD20 exposure, and cytomegalovirus DNAemia. Pre-treatment mNGS rep…

The Role of Imaging Techniques in the Evaluation of Extraglandular Manifestations in Patients with Sjögren's Syndrome.

Sjögren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease marked by lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glands and the development of sicca sy … that reflect inflammation and later tissue remodeling. In joints, ultrasound can detect synovitis, tenosynovitis, and early erosive changes, including abnormalities not yet evident on examination. Pulmonary disease, most often with interstitial lung involvement, is best evaluated with high-resolution computed tomography, which remains the most reliable imaging …

The clinical characteristics, mechanism and management of immune checkpoint inhibitor-related arthritis.

BACKGROUND: Immune-related adverse events, notably arthritis (irAE-arthritis), frequently occur in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhi … reported, such as arthralgia, mono-/oligo-/polyarthritis, reactive and psoriatic arthritis, RS3PE, tenosynovitis. The onset of irAE-arthritis is attributed to T cell dysregulation, B cell activation with autoantibody production, cytokine - mediated inflammation, and impaired immune tolerance due to Treg dysfunction. NSAIDs, intra-articular/systemic corticoster …

Diagnostic Dilemma of a Soft Tissue Mass in the Medial Gastrocnemius: A Case Report.

Soft tissue masses in the lower extremities present significant diagnostic challenges due to the broad spectrum of potential etiologies, ran … ch as schwannoma, ganglion cyst, neurofibroma, lipoma, soft tissue sarcoma, Baker's cyst, bursitis, tenosynovitis, abscesses, and vascular lesions. Surgical excision of the mass revealed a cystic lesion intimately related to the intramuscular portion of the left medial gastrocnemius muscle tendon filled with transparent, gel-like fluid. Clinical features and treatment outcomes of bone and joint nontuberculous mycobacterial infections according to immune status: a 9-year retrospective observational cohort.

OBJECTIVES: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) bone and joint infections (BJIs) are uncommon. We evaluated the characteristics of BJIs and identified differences according to immune status. METHODS: We performed a multicenter retrospective study in France involving patients with documented NTM BJI over a 9-year period. We collected the clinical and microbiological characteristics, management, and clinical outcomes of the patients. RESULTS: Overall, 95 patients were included, of whom 50.5% (48/95) were immunosuppressed. Tenosynovitis was more frequent in the immunocompetent group, and native a…

Increased Risk of Coronary Artery Disease in People with Diagnosis of Neuromuscular Disorders: A Nationwide Retrospective Population-Based Case-Control Study.

The existing literature has explored carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and determined that it could be a risk for coronary artery disease (CAD), but there has been little research comparing the relevance of CAD with other neuromuscular disorders (NMDs) to CTS. This case-control study explored the association between CTS, stenosing tenosynovitis (ST), and ulnar side NMDs and CAD. The study utilized data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database, focusing on health insurance claims. Between January 2000 and December 2011, we employed the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth…
