Scintigraphic assessment of "effort" axillary-subclavian vein thrombosis.

"Effort" axillary-subclavian vein thrombosis (Paget-Schroetter syndrome) is an uncommon deep venous thrombosis due to repetitive activity of the upper limb. Clinical suspicion is usually confirmed by contrast venography. This report describes a case where the diagnosis was made by radionuclide venography (Tc-99m DTPA). The examination was carried out in the acute phase and clearly demonstrated the presence and the site of the obstruction as well as the collateral vessels. Despite a complete clinical recovery, obtained by medical therapy, further examinations performed in the follow-up period s

Motocross morbidity: economic cost and injury distribution in children.

BACKGROUND: Motocross is a nationally organized sport that is growing in popularity. The distribution and severity of motocross injuries in the pediatric population is not known. We hypothesize a high rate of musculoskeletal injuries requiring hospitalization and/or surgical intervention. METHODS: All patients 17 years of age or younger with injuries sustained while using off-road 2-wheeled motorcycles were identified through surgical, diagnostic, and trauma registries at a level 1 regional trauma center. Type, severity, and mechanism of injury were assessed, as well as charges billed for med…

Questioning penalties and road safety Policies: Are they enough to deter risky motorcyclist Behavior?

Reducing risky behaviors and traffic violations is crucial for preventing road trauma among private and commercial motorcyclists. While legal interventions such as road rules and police enforcement have been somewhat effective, there is a gap in understanding how motorcyclists perceive these deterrents and the psycho-social factors influencing their effectiveness. This research aims to explore the interplay between motorcyclists' psycho-social predispositions and their responses to legal interventions. It also compares two distinct groups of riders - private and commercial motorcyclists - with

Extremity Injuries in Pillion Riders of Fatal 2-Wheeler Road Traffic Accidents: An Autopsy-Based Study.

The extremities are the important anatomical regions that are disproportionately injured during road traffic accidents in poor and medium-income countries. The data regarding extremity injuries, particularly in pillion passengers, are minimal globally. We analyzed the pattern of extremity injuries and their association with various parameters such as collision type, seating position, road type, and type of vehicle. This was a hospital-based cross-sectional study. The pillion riders of fatal motorized 2-wheeler road accident cases that were subjected to autopsy were studied over a period of 2 y

Introducing the Muzzammil classification for spoke wheel injuries in children to enhance injury assessment and treatment in developing countries.

Motorbike spoke wheel injuries (SWIs) among children are a notable public health concern, especially in low and middle-income regions. The primary objective of this study is to comprehensively examine the patterns of motorbike spoke wheel injuries (SWIs) in children. Additionally, the study introduces a novel classification system for these injuries. The implementation of this classification system aims to streamline the management of SWIs, making it more efficient and facilitating the development of standardized treatment protocols. This prospective observational study was conducted in the Ac

Injuries associated with a fractured shaft of the femur.

A knowledge of injury patterns, both from the mechanism of injury and from their associations, allows specific injuries to be suspected and actively excluded. We have reviewed fractures of the femoral shaft to highlight the patterns of their associated high morbidity and mortality. Our survey shows that accidents involving motorcyclists, pedestrians and motor cars have the highest incidence of associated injury. Common associations include chest, head, pelvis and ipsilateral leg injuries in pedestrians, and pelvic and ipsilateral leg injuries in motorcyclists. Rarer associations with femoral s

From Single Impact Sites to Dispersed Corridors: A Disaster Report of Emergency Medical Services Command Adaptation to Cluster-Munition Pattern Missile Strikes in Israel.

This Disaster Report describes a series of missile impact events managed by Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's national Emergency Medical Services (EMS) organization, during the March 2026 missile campaign. The report focuses on a recurring operational distinction between compact single-warhead impact events and dispersed cluster-munition pattern events. Unlike routine mass-casualty incident recognition, MDA dispatch did not need to infer the possibility of a dispersed event only from accumulating emergency calls. While missiles are in flight, the Home Front Command (HFC) broadcasts real-time th

"Epileptics as drivers"- the first report on motor vehicle accidents due to epileptic seizures in 1906.

OBJECTIVE: The 1906 report of Franz Thalwitzer on motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) in two people with epilepsy has been frequently cited as the first report to provide justification for legal regulations to prohibit people with epilepsy from driving. METHODS: On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the Thalwitzer report, we analyzed the clinical findings and the circumstances of the accidents outlined in the text to clarify whether the events described were definitive epileptic seizures. RESULTS: Both people had a history of epilepsy. Case 1, who drove a car, had been treated with bromides

Ipsilateral concomitant fractures of the distal radius and radial head: a radial Joint-Coupled Pattern (JCP).

BACKGROUND: Radius bipolar fractures are characterized by an ipsilateral combination of fractures in both the distal and proximal radius, which occur much less commonly than their separate counterparts. We propose the term Joint-Coupled Pattern (JCP) to describe this distinct injury, defined as a single bone fractured at both proximal and distal ends, thereby affecting two adjacent joints. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old female presented with right wrist pain following a motorcycle accident. Initial X-rays revealed a distal radius fracture (2R3B2, volar displacement). Open reduction internal

Bilateral Displaced Midshaft Clavicle Fractures Following High-energy Road Traffic Trauma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Bilateral clavicle fractures represent one of the rarest patterns of shoulder girdle trauma, occurring predominantly after high-energy mechanisms and posing unique challenges in diagnosis and management. Their simultaneous disruption compromises both clavicular struts, resulting in impaired shoulder biomechanics and necessitating timely stabilization for optimal functional recovery. A 25-year-old male sustained high-velocity trauma following a motorcycle accident and presented with severe bilateral shoulder pain, deformity, swelling, and markedly restricted arm elevation. Neurological and dist

Total Hip Arthroplasty for Untreated Acetabular Fractures: A Case Series.

INTRODUCTION: Acetabular fractures are managed acutely with internal fixation but when left untreated for more than 3 weeks, these injuries lead to post-traumatic arthritis and osteonecrosis of the hip. Such complications indicate the need for total hip arthroplasty. In the Philippines, no studies have been published documenting the outcomes of managing untreated acetabular fractures with total hip arthroplasty. CASE PRESENTATION: This study documented five cases of untreated acetabular fractures managed with total hip arthroplasty in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Philippines in 2023

Antegrade intramedullary nail and plate combination technique for proximal humeral non-union: A case report.

Proximal humeral nonunion remains a challenging condition, particularly after failed plate fixation, because of the compromised bone stock within the humeral head and loss of medial calcar support. Under these conditions, it is often difficult to achieve sufficient mechanical stability while preserving the humeral head. We report a case of proximal humeral nonunion successfully treated using the nail and plate combination technique. A 61-year-old man sustained a high-energy proximal humeral fracture in a motorcycle accident and underwent initial plate fixation at a different institution. The p

Successful surgical repair of blunt traumatic cardiac rupture with V-A ECMO initiated during open cardiac massage: a case report.

Blunt traumatic cardiac rupture is a rare and frequently fatal injury. The role of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO) during active surgical resuscitation remains uncertain. A 55-year-old man was transported to our hybrid emergency room in profound shock after a motorcycle collision. Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma demonstrated pericardial effusion with cardiac tamponade. Emergency resuscitative thoracotomy and pericardiotomy revealed a right ventricular rupture. Despite manual compression of the rupture site and open cardiac massage, the patient develop
