PURPOSE: To improve overall quality of life, palliative treatments should attempt to minimize associated complications while effectively controlling specific symptoms. We reviewed our experience treating posterior uveal metastases with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) to determine the complication rate and to identify the relationship between patient, tumor, or treatment-related factors and the development of ocular complications.

To improve the reliability of the technique, contact transscleral cyclophotocoagulation was performed using a continuous wave neodymium-YAG laser. 24 cases of choroid plexus tumours (16 papillomas and 8 carcinomas) were observed in the Department of Paediatric Neurosurgery, Hôpital des Enfants de la Timone, Marseille France between 1975 and 1989. Therapeutic results are presented with follow-up examinations of at least 5 years (min. 5 years, max. 22 years) after 106Ru/106Rh plaque radiotherapy of posterior uveal melanomas. Choroid plexus papillomas (CPP) are rare intracranial tumours with a favourable long-term outcome after surgical excision. Although they are histologically benign, local recurrences may occasionally occur, but leptomeningeal dissemination is exceptional.
