[Cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea in achondroplasia with hydrocephalus (author's transl)].

Cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea was observed in a 12-year old girl with achondroplasia and communicating hydrocephalus. The leakage ceased and did not recur after treatment by ventriculo-atrial shunting (Holter valve) without plugging the fistula. The pathogenetic factors in this case are discussed.

Alternative splicing of PeGA20ox1 impairs PeRAP2-1-mediated GA/ABA homeostasis leading to short internodes in the dwarf variant of Moso bamboo, Phyllostachys edulis 'Heterocycla'.

Internode morphology critically determines bamboo wood quality. Phyllostachys edulis 'Heterocycla' (GJ) is a natural dwarf mutant of P. edulis (WT), yet regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we show that impaired parenchyma cell elongation is the primary cellular basis for dwarfism in GJ. This phenotype correlates with a marked reduction in gibberellin (GA) and an increase in abscisic acid (ABA) levels. Through weighted gene co-expression network analysis, we identified PeGA20ox1 as a critical regulator of internode elongation. In GJ, PeGA20ox1 undergoes alternative splicing (AS), produc…

Galactinol synthase 4 influences plant height by affecting phenylpropanoid metabolism and the balance of soluble carbohydrates in tomato.

Plant height is a key trait that significantly influences plant architecture, disease resistance, adaptability to mechanical cultivation, an … noids, which are byproducts of phenylpropanoid metabolism. This may be a key factor contributing to dwarfism. Overall, these findings provide evidence for the role of SlGolS4 in regulating sugar metabolism and phenylpropanoid metabolism, offering new insights into tomato dwarfing cultivation and germplasm resources.

The Microtubule-Associated Protein CsTON2 Interacts With CsTRM5 and CsSUN to Regulate Fruit Shape Development in Cucumber.

Fruit shape is an important external quality trait that directly determines the market value. Modification of fruit shape has emerged as a k … ally rescued the mutant phenotype, while knockout of CsTON2 led to severe developmental defects and dwarfism. We further demonstrated that CsTON2 physically interacts with CsTRM5 and CsSUN, two key regulators of fruit shape in cucumber. The SNP change of CsTON2 in sf5 mutant impairs the interaction with CsTRM5 and CsSUN, and decreases the protein stability …

Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty in an Adult With Achondroplasia.

Background: Achondroplasia can result in many skeletal manifestations, and degenerative osteoarthritis can develop in patients with achondro … lenoid medialization, if present. Case Report: We present the case of an adult with achondroplastic dwarfism with shoulder osteoarthritis and rotator cuff insufficiency and report the 2-year clinical results for this patient after reverse TSA. Conclusion: Reverse TSA is a viable treatment option for adult achondroplastic patients with shoulder dysfunction. …

Antenatal unilateral upper limb acromesomelic dysplasia.

Acromesomelic dysplasia (AMD) is an umbrella term given to a heterogeneous group of progressive skeletal disorders characterized by short limbed dwarfism associated with disproportionate shortening of middle and distal segments of the upper as well as lower limbs. Although specific skeletal anomalies are difficult to diagnose antenatally, but because of their antenatal and postnatal implications and a possibility of reoccurrence in following pregnancies, such skeletal anomalies need to be actively addressed. A combination of radiologic, pathologic, genetic and molecular investigation prenatall…

Strength of the 'island rule' in birds is positively associated with absence of avian predators.

The similar characteristics shared by island environments have been shown to lead to common patterns of adaptations in island species, commonly referred to as the 'insularity syndrome'. A well-known example is the 'island rule', where large species become smaller on islands and small species become larger, leading to well-known cases of dwarfism and gigantism. This pattern was recently verified on a global scale, but the mechanisms underlying it have been poorly investigated. Here, we focused on the role of released pressure from predation and competition experienced by island birds. Using 120…
