The value of male human papillomavirus vaccination in preventing cervical cancer and genital warts in a low-resource setting.

OBJECTIVE: To estimate health benefits and incremental cost-effectiveness of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination of pre-adolescent boys and girls compared with girls alone for preventing cervical cancer and genital warts. DESIGN: Model-based economic evaluation. SETTING: Southern Vietnam. POPULATION: Males and females aged ≥9 years. METHODS: We simulated dynamic HPV transmission to estimate cervical cancer and genital warts cases. Models were calibrated to epidemiological data from south Vietnam. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs): cost per quality-adj

Highlighting the structural complexity of Europe's leading seafood processing hub: Building a social-ecological network with actor-network theory.

The seafood sector faces multiple challenges that threaten its contribution to food security. For developing effective governance strategies in response to those transformations, this study proposes a theoretical framework grounded in Actor-Network Theory (ANT), applied to the construction of a Social-Ecological Network (SEN), to better understand the structural complexity of the seafood sector SES in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Europe's leading seafood processing hub. Through semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and participatory workshops, we identified 227 nodes and 595 links across envir

Climate risk and renewable energy technological innovation: An institutional environment perspective.

To explore whether climate risk (CR) affects renewable energy technological innovation (RETI) and its boundary conditions, this study examines the relationship between CR and RETI as moderated by institutional environment. Based on panel data of 60 countries for the period 2000-2019, we show that CR is not conducive to RETI, and that its negative marginal impact shows an inverted U-shaped trend with the improvement of RETI. Heterogeneity analysis shows that floods and storms have the greatest negative impacts on RETI, and that innovations in solar and wind energy technologies are more vulnerab

The Social Support and Family Health Study: a randomised controlled trial and economic evaluation of two alternative forms of postnatal support for mothers living in disadvantaged inner-city areas.

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether increased postnatal support could influence maternal and child health outcomes. DESIGN: This was a randomised controlled trial comparing maternal and child health outcomes for women offered either of the support interventions with those for control women receiving standard services only. Outcome data were collected through questionnaires distributed 12 and 18 months postrandomisation. Process data were also collected. There was also an integral economic evaluation. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: Women living in deprived enumeration districts in selected London bor

A Fournier's gangrene after transurethral resection of the prostate.

Fournier's gangrene is a rapidly progressive and potentially lethal disease that affects the perineum and mal genitalia. Predisposing factors included age, diabetes, alcoholism, malnutrition, and low socio-economic status. Herein, we present a 70-year-old patient who developed Fournier's gangrene following transurethral resection of the prostate. He had no predispositional factors to develop Fournier's gangrene.

Morphogenesis of multicellular glandular trichomes in plants.

As the outermost epidermal structures, trichomes mediate plant-environment interactions and play critical roles in plant adaptation and stress responses. Beyond providing physical protection, many trichomes develop specialized glandular structures capable of biosynthesizing a diverse array of secondary metabolites with defensive functions. In addition, these compounds derived from glandular trichomes (GTs) also possess substantial economic value. Elucidating the regulatory mechanisms governing GT development is therefore essential for improving plant stress tolerance and for harnessing synthet
