Automatic Prediction of TMJ Disc Displacement in CBCT Images Using Machine Learning.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard for diagnosing disc displacement in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, but its high cost and practical challenges limit its accessibility. This study aimed to develop a machine learning (ML) model that can predict TMJ disc displacement using only cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-based radiomics features without MRI. CBCT images of 247 mandibular condyles from 134 patients who also underwent MRI scans were analyzed. To conduct three experiments based on the classification of various patient groups, we trained two ML models, random

Fusion-ADiNet: a multi-level framework for enhanced diabetes and Alzheimer's disease detection using chimp-whale fusion estimation.

Rising cases of diabetes and AD are the two biggest health-related issues world-wide; this greatly hampers the quality of life among the afflicted persons. Early identification of diabetes most especially correlated with neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's guarantees early intervention and hence proper management. However, the existing approaches for disease detection have been suffering from a series of limitations in poor diagnostic accuracy, high computational complexity, and the lack of an effective model that could properly handle the intricate correlations between diabetes a

Continuous non-contact monitoring of neonatal activity.

PURPOSE: Neonatal activity is an important physiological parameter in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The degree of neonatal activity is associated with under and over-sedation and may also indicate the onset of disease. Activity may also cause motion noise on physiological signals leading to false readings of important parameters such as heart rate, respiratory rate or oxygen saturation or, in extreme cases, a failure to calculate the parameter at all. Here we report on a novel neonatal activity monitoring technology we have developed using a Random Forest machine learning algorithm

Performance evaluation of a machine learning-based methodology using dynamical features to detect nonwear intervals in actigraphy data in a free-living setting.

GOAL AND AIMS: One challenge using wearable sensors is nonwear time. Without a nonwear (e.g., capacitive) sensor, actigraphy data quality can be biased by subjective determinations confounding sleep/wake classification. We developed and evaluated a machine learning algorithm supplemented by dynamic features to discern wear/nonwear episodes. FOCUS TECHNOLOGY: Actigraphy data from wrist actigraph (Spectrum, Philips-Respironics). REFERENCE TECHNOLOGY: The built-in nonwear sensor as "ground truth" to classify nonwear periods using other data, mimicking features of Actiwatch 2. SAMPLE: Data were

Long-term exposure to ambient air pollution and cardiometabolic multimorbidity in Chinese adults over 45 years.

The rising prevalence of cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM), characterized by the coexistence of two or more cardiometabolic disorders, poses a significant public health challenge in aging populations. While ambient air pollution is a recognized environmental risk factor, its long-term impact on CMM remains underexplored, particularly in China. Utilizing data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS, 2015 wave), we analyzed 9,830 participants aged ≥ 45 years. CMM was defined as the concurrent presence of two or more conditions: diabetes/hyperglycemia, cardiovascular di
