[Diagnosis and Treatment of Adult ADHD Comorbid with Mood or Anxiety Disorders].

Adult ADHD is often comorbid with psychiatric disorders: depressive or bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, other destructive disorders, or nicotine dependency. Although the pathological backgrounds of these comorbidities are diverse, some of them, except bipolar disorder, are partly secondary to difficulties associated with ADHD. Many adults with ADHD visit psychiatrists with psychiatric symptoms. Focusing on the growth history and difficulties in daily life persisting after the remission of mood or anxiety disorders enables psychiatrists to diagnose adult ADHD. However, the diagnosis of adu

Diagnostic yield of genetic testing in children with short stature: a systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: To synthesize current evidence on genetic testing yield in children with short stature and to identify phenotypic and methodological factors influencing outcomes. The review served as a basis for the development of a consensus guideline on genetic evaluation of short stature. DESIGN: Systematic review. METHODS: Diagnostic yields were calculated by testing modality and clinical characteristics of study cohorts. Results were compared across time periods and recalculated excluding variants of uncertain significance (VUS). Phenotypic features associated with higher yields and the most

Madelung Deformity: A Current Concepts Review.

Madelung deformity is a rare congenital wrist deformity characterized by growth disturbance of the volar-ulnar aspect of the distal radial physis, leading to progressive wrist deformity, pain, and stiffness. Madelung deformity is frequently associated with genetic conditions such as Leri-Weill dyschondrosteosis and Turner syndrome, and more recently, mutations in the GNAS gene have been implicated. Diagnosis is based on clinical findings and radiographic criteria, with plain radiographs demonstrating characteristic volar-ulnar radial curvature, positive ulnar variance, and carpal subluxation.

Perspective: Connecting the dots between domestic livestock ownership and child linear growth in low- and middle-income countries.

Child stunting due to linear growth faltering remains a pervasive issue in low- and middle-income countries. Two schools of thought have existed pertaining to the role of domestic livestock ownership (DLO) in child linear growth. On one hand, it is argued that DLO leads to greater income and financial security, resulting in better child-raising conditions, including greater animal-source food (ASF) consumption, having protective effects towards child stunting. On the other hand, researchers argue that DLO contributes to faecal contamination and transmission of zoonotic enteric infections from

Five siblings expand the spectrum of GPC6-related skeletal dysplasia.

Skeletal dysplasias broadly include disorders of cartilage or bone. Omodysplasia-1 is a type of skeletal dysplasia caused by biallelic loss of function variants in the GPC6 gene. GPC6 codes for the protein glypican 6 (GPC6) (OMIM *604404), which stimulates bone growth. We report a family in which five out of nine children were presented with a skeletal dysplasia characterized phenotypically by mild short stature and rhizomelia. All affected individuals were found to have homozygous missense variants in GPC6: c.511 C>T (p.Arg171Trp). Radiograph findings included rhizomelic foreshortening of all

The expanding genetic and clinical landscape associated with Meier-Gorlin syndrome.

High-throughput sequencing has become a standard first-tier approach for both diagnostics and research-based genetic testing. Consequently, this hypothesis-free testing manner has revealed the true breadth of clinical features for many established genetic disorders, including Meier-Gorlin syndrome (MGORS). Previously known as ear-patella short stature syndrome, MGORS is characterized by growth delay, microtia, and patella hypo/aplasia, as well as genital abnormalities, and breast agenesis in females. Following the initial identification of genetic causes in 2011, a total of 13 genes have been

Transcriptome analysis of Macrobrachium rosenbergii: Identification of precocious puberty and slow-growing information.

Macrobrachium rosenbergii is an important economic aquatic animal and has been cultivated worldwide. However, it has suffered a disease of precocious puberty and growth retardation. This disease was also called iron prawn syndrome (IPS) in recent years. However, the cause of this disease has thus far remained a mystery . The present work utilized transcriptome sequencing technology to acquire gene expression information of gonads and to find the differentially expressed genes(DEGs) between diseased and normal male prawn. Finally, 426 significantly expressed genes were identified(p less than 0.

[Germinoma in a patient with emaciation and growth retardation. Case report].

Central nervous system tumors are the second most frequent oncological disease among children and teenagers. Among the intracranial tumors, the germ cells ones are infrequent. The symptoms they cause are headaches, nausea and vomiting, hormonal deficits, visual disturbances, weight loss, poor growth and early puberty. Less frequently, they produce movement or psychiatric disorders. Some of these tumors can be asymptomatic for a long period leading to a late diagnosis. The case of a 14-year-old female patient is presented. She showed weight loss and growth failure, with wrong diagnosis of eatin

Madelung Deformity: Radioscapholunate Arthrodesis With a Neo-DRUJ.

BACKGROUND: Madelung deformity is a rare wrist anomaly that causes considerable pain while restricting function. In this study, we describe a radioscapholunate (RSL) arthrodesis with a neo-distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) in Madelung deformity patients with an abnormal sigmoid notch and compare results to patients after a reverse wedge osteotomy. METHODS: Six wrists underwent RSL arthrodesis with a neo-DRUJ in a two-phase approach: (1) modified RSL arthrodesis with triquetrectomy; and (2) distal scaphoidectomy. Seven wrists underwent a reverse wedge osteotomy procedure. RESULTS: There were no

Auxological and Endocrinological Features in Children With McCune Albright Syndrome: A Review.

McCune-Albright syndrome is a rare and challenging congenital sporadic disease involving the skin and skeletal and endocrine systems with a prevalence ranges from one in 100,000 to 1,000,000. In addition to the classical triad of fibrous dysplasia of bone, café au lait pigmented skin lesions and precocious puberty, other multiple endocrinological features, including hyperthyroidism, growth hormone excess, hypercortisolism, and hypophosphatemic rickets, have been reported. A brief review of the syndrome in children is here reported.

[Progress on research of Madelung's deformity].

Madelung deformity is a rare deformity of forearm and wrist caused by growth disorders of distal radius ulnar and palmar epiphyseal. Current studies showed that its incidence mainly associated with trauma, epiphyseal developmental abnormalities, nutritional disorders and genetic deletion or mutation. The early clinical presentation is not typical, in middle and late time, wrist deformity and weak can appear. Plain film considered as the main means of diagnosis is often lack of early diagnosis significance. Although wrist joint magnetic resonance imaging showing early soft tissue and skeletal a…

Two cases of hemihyperplasia-multiple lipomatosis syndrome and review of asymmetric hemihyperplasia syndromes.

Hemihyperplasia-multiple lipomatosis syndrome (HHML) is a condition characterized by asymmetric nonprogressive overgrowth, multiple lipomas, and superficial vascular malformations. We present two cases of HHML to enhance the diagnostic acumen of dermatologists and avoid potential misdiagnosis of this rare but probably underrecognized entity. We also provide a brief review of asymmetric overgrowth syndromes, which have overlapping yet distinct clinical manifestations.

Hairy elbows - A case study.

A boy aged 6 years was referred to our clinic for evaluation of the presence of fair, thin hair on both of his elbows. This condition had first been observed when he was 2 years of age and the hair had subsequently increased in length and thickness (Figure 1). He had a history of asthma and was being treated by a paediatrician. His family medical record was otherwise unremarkable. This unusual hairiness was symmetrically distributed on the extensor surfaces of both proximal forearms and distal arms. The underlying skin showed no abnormalities. No hypertrichosis was found elsewhere and examinat

Tumor predisposition in Costello syndrome.

Costello syndrome (CS) is a rare congenital anomaly syndrome. Although it may be classified as an "overgrowth" syndrome due to slightly increased birth weight and relative macrocephaly, it is characterized by severe postnatal failure to thrive and short stature. Patients with CS have an increased risk for malignant tumors, a hallmark of several model overgrowth syndromes. The most common tumor in CS is rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), followed by neuroblastoma and bladder carcinoma. The occurrence of bladder carcinoma in adolescents is distinctly unusual as this is typically a neoplasm of older adults
