Six hundred and five cases of endometrial carcinoma, pathologic stage I, without definable extrauterine disease were initially treated with total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, followed by high-dose-rate iridium-192 irradiation of the vagina. External irradiation of the pelvis was performed only for patients with poor prognostic factors. Five-year survival was calculated by the product-limit method of Kaplan and Meier. Three hundred and forty-eight patients with tumor invasion of the inner third, of any tumor grade, received postoperative vaginal irradiation only.

This study presents the short-term outcomes of conformal external beam radiation therapy given in conjunction with hormone therapy to 110 patients with prostate cancer. We performed a comparative analysis of the rate and degree of radiation reactions and complications following delivery of a total dose of 70 Gy and 72-76 Gy to the tumor. In prostate cancer, a continuous course of dose-escalated conformal radiation therapy resulted in satisfactory tolerance and acceptable levels of late complications.

Infections due to Chlamydia are exceedingly important and common in emergency medicine, perhaps more so than any other single infectious agent. Recent studies have documented Chlamydia as a major cause of such commonly seen entities as urethritis, epididymitis, cervicitis, conjunctivitis, and neonatal pneumonia. Because clinical diagnosis and treatment is usually straightforward, and the already tremendous incidence of these "outpatient" infections is certain to increase, emergency physicians must become familiar with their diagnosis and management.

The histology of the rectal mucosa in 57 men with culturally-proven rectal gonorrhoea is described and the results compared with the findings in biopsies from 57 non-infected men. An acute inflammatory cell infiltration of the rectal mucosa was found in three (5.3%) and two (3.5%) infected and non-infected men respectively. Twenty-one (36.8%) men with rectal gonorrhoea and nine (15.8%) non-infected men had an increased number of chronic inflammatory cells in the lamina propria.
