Simultaneous isolated avulsion fractures of the lesser tuberosities of the humeri: A rare occurrence secondary to alcohol withdrawal seizures.

Fractures of the lesser tuberosity of the humerus are typically traumatic in nature, most commonly occurring in association with multi-part fractures of the humeral head, often in the setting of a posterior shoulder dislocation. Isolated fractures of the lesser tuberosity are considerably more rare and are difficult to diagnose on standard shoulder radiographs without an axillary view. These fractures have been associated with 3 main types of injury: acute abduction/external rotation injury, acute injury or repetitive stress injury in adolescent overhead or throwing athletes, and rarely as a s

Risk factors for obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI) at a tertiary centre in south India.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Despite several studies that have reported risk factors for obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI), data from the Indian subcontinent are scarce. The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors for these sphincter injuries in an Indian population. METHODS: This was a case-control study within a retrospective cohort of vaginal deliveries at a tertiary care facility. All vaginal births beyond 24 completed weeks of gestation and birth weight ≥500 g from January 2008 to December 2012 were identified from the hospital electronic database. Cases were women with

Comparison of rotator cuff muscle thickness and acromiohumeral distance in overhead adolescent athletes with and without rounded shoulders.

PURPOSE: Shoulder injuries, particularly in athletes engaged in overhead sports, are common and debilitating, often resulting from overuse and improper posture. Rounded shoulder deformity is a postural abnormality linked to shoulder dysfunction and rotator cuff imbalances. Therefore, the current study compares rotator cuff muscle thickness and acromiohumeral distance (AHD) in overhead athletes with and without rounded shoulders. METHODS: In this cross-sectional research, 32 overhead athletes were divided into groups with and without rounded shoulders. The measurements were taken via ultrasoun…

[Arthroscopic shoulder surgery].

In the field of orthopedic surgery, arthroscopic surgery has become widespread since its first development by Dr. Watanabe in 1950. Arthroscopic surgery for the knee joint is now a common procedure, but this surgery is not so common when the procedure involves the shoulder joint. Although using arthroscopic surgery is not so common on the shoulder joint, there are several benefits by utilizing arthroscopy in such cases. Some of the benefits are; minimal scar formation, no functional limitation of the deltoid muscle, and a quick recovery time. So it is believed that due to these benefits, shoul

Brachial Plexus Injury in a 6-Year-Old Boy with 100% Displaced Proximal Humeral Metaphyseal Fracture: A Case Presentation.

UNLABELLED: Posttraumatic brachial plexopathies can occur following displaced proximal humeral fractures, causing profound functional deficits. Described here is an unusual case of a displaced proximal humeral metaphyseal fracture in a young child. The patient underwent closed reduction and serial casting, but hand weakness and forearm sensory loss persisted. Needle electromyography localized the injury to the mid/proximal arm near the fracture site, resulting in damage to the posterior and medial cords of the brachial plexus with profound involvement of the radial, ulnar, and median nerves an

Is it possible to reduce obstetrical brachial plexus palsy by optimal management of shoulder dystocia?

Obstetrical brachial plexus palsies (OBPP) have been historically attributed to the impaction of the fetal shoulder behind the symphysis pubis and to excessive lateral traction of the fetal head during maneuvers to deliver the fetal shoulders in shoulder dystocia. Shoulder dystocia is indeed a major risk factor as it increases the risk for OBPP 100-fold. The incidence of OBPP following shoulder dystocia varies widely from 4% to 40%. However, a significant proportion of OBPPs are secondary to in utero injury. The propulsive forces of labor, intrauterine maladaptation, and compression of the pos

Cross-Cultural Adaptation, Reliability, and Validity of the Greek Version of the Subjective Patient Outcome for Return to Sports (SPORTS) Score Questionnaire in Athletes with Various Shoulder Pathologies.

Background: Shoulder injury is common among athletes who engage in sports where the upper limb is actively involved. These injuries can affect an athlete's performance and ability to return to sports at the preinjury level. This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt the Subjective Patient Outcome for Return to Sports score in Greek (SPORTS-GR) and evaluate its reliability and construct validity. Methods: Sixty-five Greek athletes (18-40 years) diagnosed with shoulder pathology were included. The SPORTS-GR was adapted according to standard procedures, and its construct validity was examined via

Axillary Artery Pseudoaneurysm Secondary to Septic Shoulder After Trauma: A Review of Incidence and Outcomes.

Axillary artery pseudoaneurysm (AAP) is a rare vascular complication arising from trauma or septic shoulder conditions. Its proximity to the brachial plexus and axillary structures increases the risk for neurovascular compromise, hemorrhage, and limb loss. This review aims to evaluate the incidence, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of AAP secondary to trauma and septic shoulder infection. A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library through October 2025 following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guideli

Diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome after a first shoulder dislocation.

BACKGROUND: Shoulder dislocation is often the first symptom of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). Whether it occurs in early-onset EDS is unknown. In most cases, surgical failure leads to the diagnosis. We aimed to determine whether clinical symptoms can signal the presence of EDS at a first dislocation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study, we analyzed clinical and radiologic data for 27 patients with EDS and shoulder instability and a control population of 40 consecutive non-EDS patients undergoing surgery for an unstable shoulder. Data were collected on gender, age, single or bila

Brachial artery injury following opened elbow dislocation associated with accessory brachial artery: two rare entities in a 17-year -old girl: case report.

Elbow dislocations are the most frequently encountered after shoulder dislocations. In their vast majority, these injuries carry a good prognosis. Although, concomitant arterial injury is rare and make them more serious. In this paper, we report a case of a 17 year old woman with opened elbow dislocation with arterial injury associated to an artery variation: "accessory brachial artery".

[Traumatic posterior shoulder dislocation : diagnosis and therapy].

In contrast to anterior dislocations, traumatic dorsal shoulder dislocation is a rare complication of upper extremity injuries. If the diagnosis is overseen and treated incorrectly, severe mobility restrictions might be the consequence for the injured individual. Hence, the aim of this article is to demonstrate the adequate diagnostic and therapeutic management and to critically discuss the literature.

[Operative treatment of proximal humerus fractures in children and adolescents--indications, technic, late results].

The good prognosis of proximal humeral fractures in children and adolescents is explained by the anatomy of the shoulder and the physiology of the proximal humeral epiphysis. The treatment of these injuries therefore is mainly conservative. Based on the results of 24 patients operated between 1970 and 1980 a therapeutic concept concerning indication, timing and operative technique is proposed.

Lateral implosion injuries: Epidemiology, outcomes and evaluation of the Ch-Sh classification.

BACKGROUND: Lateral implosion injuries (LIIs) result from lateral trauma to the thoracic cage and shoulder, causing concomitant rib and shoulder girdle fractures. While individual combinations of rib and shoulder girdle fractures have been described, the clinical significance of LIIs is poorly understood. Current classification of LIIs relies on radiographic scores such as RibScore, which assess rib or shoulder fractures in isolation. The Ch-Sh (Chest-Shoulder) Classification was proposed to predict risk in LIIs, but its clinical validity has not been evaluated. METHODS: A retrospective cohor
