SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence and COVID-19 vaccination coverage in two states of Nigeria from a population based household survey.

SARS-CoV-2 population-based seroprevalence surveys are useful for estimating the extent of SARS-CoV-2 infections, which may be underestimated by COVID-19 case counts. Surveys conducted in October 2020 in four Nigerian states showed that SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence ranged from 9.3% in Gombe (northeast) to 25.2% in Enugu (southeast) after the first COVID-19 wave, more than 100 and 700 times higher than the official number of COVID-19 cases in these two states, respectively. We conducted a serosurvey after the second COVID-19 wave to evaluate the extent of SARS-CoV-2 infections, attitudes to COVID-

Acceptance of COVID-19 vaccine booster doses among the Adult Population in Ghana: a cross-sectional study using the Health Belief Model.

BACKGROUND: The Health Belief Model (HBM) is a widely utilised framework for understanding vaccination behaviour against COVID-19. This study assessed the acceptance of COVID-19 vaccine booster doses in Ghana and identified predictors using HBM domains, including perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits, barriers, self-efficacy, and cues to action. Additionally, it examined the sources of information about COVID-19 vaccines. METHODS: We employed a cross-sectional quantitative design, using convenient and snowball sampling methods to recruit participants. Between March 20 and May 10, 2023,

COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake Rates and Associated Factors in Racially Diverse Parents in Canada: The Threat From Conspiracy Beliefs and Racial Discrimination.

Although vaccination is a well-recognized illness prevention strategy in medicine, vaccine uptake remains inconsistent in racialized and Indigenous communities in North America. Given that vaccination decisions in children are largely mediated by their parents' beliefs and values, this study aimed to examine vaccination rates and associated factors among parents of children aged 0-12 years from various racial groups in Canada. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2023, involving a nationally representative sample of 2528 parents of children aged 0-12 years across Canada (57.52% women). Vac

Understanding the influence of social media on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance in a war-torn Syria: A cross-sectional study.

Social media has become a source of disseminating information to the public during the COVID-19 outbreak which has been a great advantage for healthcare centers. However, foreign anti-vaccination campaigns on social media increased the disbelief in vaccine safety. To our knowledge, the effects of social media on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance are not well-studied in low-income countries. The primary objective of this survey is to investigate Syrians' dependence on social media platforms to get information about vaccines, and to what extent it affects their vaccination decision. A web-based cross-

Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Perceptions Among Noncollege Young Adults and TikTok Influencers: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is a proven and effective tool for preventing several types of cancers, yet vaccination rates among young adults remain suboptimal, particularly among those not enrolled in 4-year colleges. This population can be more difficult to reach due to fewer established institutional touchpoints, limited engagement with campus-based health services, and greater variability in access to preventive care. At the same time, social media has become a dominant source of information for young adults, with TikTok (ByteDance) emerging as one of the most widely

Spatiotemporal framing of uncertainty in Czech Media vaccination debates before and during COVID-19.

Uncertainty represents one of the principal aspects of public debates concerning health issues, and it has been particularly prominent in the context of epidemics and pandemics. The mass media play an important role in shaping public perceptions, decision-making, and behaviour. This study examines how mass media in Czechia constructed and navigated uncertainties before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on spatiotemporality. Through qualitative content analysis of 437 articles published in three online media, we move beyond research that typically treats uncertainty as a single, un

Disruption and recovery: a qualitative study on health services for vulnerable populations during the pandemic.

Public health emergencies like pandemics results in systemic disruptions, leading to substantial indirect consequences beyond direct morbidity and mortality. The experiences from previous outbreaks have shown disproportionate effects on the vulnerable groups. This study aims to identify the challenges faced by these groups in attaining routine health services during the COVID-19 pandemic and the strategies used for service recovery. A qualitative study done in Jodhpur district in Western India using inductive thematic approach. Data were collected through eight key informant interviews with he

Emergency Medical Services Clinicians and COVID-19 Booster Behavior-A Cross-Sectional National Evaluation.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Emergency Medical Services (EMS) clinicians in the US have high COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy rates and often do not receive primary vaccinations or subsequent boosters. The extent of booster attrition following initial vaccination and first booster dose in EMS clinicians is unknown. Our objective was to evaluate the prevalence and drivers of COVID-19 booster attrition in EMS clinicians. We hypothesized that booster attrition is common among EMS clinicians and associated with various EMS characteristics. METHODS: This study was a cross-sectional analysis of nationally cert

How were pregnant women included in emergency COVID-19 vaccine delivery in The Gambia? A qualitative study of perspectives of healthcare workers and policy influencers.

OBJECTIVES: Pregnant women are at increased risk of severe illness and adverse pregnancy outcomes during infectious disease outbreaks, yet they are frequently excluded from early emergency vaccine responses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, evolving pregnancy-specific safety evidence contributed to delayed and inconsistent guidance, complicating integration of vaccination into routine maternal health services. This study examined how pregnant women were included in The Gambia's COVID-19 vaccine rollout and identified priorities to strengthen pregnancy-inclusive preparedness for future emergencies

Health Communication in COVID-19 Era: Experiences from the Italian VaccinarSì Network Websites.

In 2013, in a bid to combat Vaccine Hesitancy (VH) and provide information on vaccines by communicating with the general public and the health community (e.g., healthcare workers and public health operators), the Italian Society of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine (S.It.I.) published the national website "VaccinarSì". The project was subsequently extended to ten Italian Regions. This led to the creation of the VaccinarSì Network, whose websites are publicly owned. The aim of this work was to present the framework of the websites of the VaccinarSì Network and to analyse user behaviour in the pre

A low-background, fluorescent assay to evaluate inhibitors of diverse viral proteases.

Multiple coronaviruses (CoVs) can cause respiratory diseases in humans. While prophylactic vaccines designed to prevent infection are available for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), incomplete vaccine efficacy, vaccine hesitancy, and the threat of other pathogenic CoVs for which vaccines do not exist have highlighted the need for effective antiviral therapies. While antiviral compounds targeting the viral polymerase and protease are already in clinical use, their sensitivity to potential resistance mutations as well as their breadth against the full range of human a

Water, Hygiene and Inequality: Keys to Understanding and Combating the Current Cholera Epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo-A Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is among the countries most affected by cholera in the world. Since the 1970s, endemic foci have persisted in the eastern lake provinces, where chronic armed conflict, massive population displacement, and extreme socioeconomic inequalities create particularly favorable conditions for transmission. Despite a national elimination plan involving more than 22 ministries, the epidemic continues: 46,800 cases and 1362 deaths were recorded as of August 2025. This review synthesizes recent data on the structural determinants, public health

Perception and Awareness about Monkeypox and Vaccination Acceptance in an At-Risk Population in Brescia, Italy: An Investigative Survey.

Before 2022, monkeypox virus (Mpox) infection in humans was seldom reported outside Africa. During the May 2022 outbreak, most cases were detected among men who have sex with men (MSM). Since Mpox is largely unknown to the general population, through a self-completion questionnaire, we investigated the behaviours and knowledge of our at-risk population belonging to the sexually transmitted infection (STI) outpatient clinic of the Infectious Diseases Unit of the ASST Spedali Civili of Brescia, Italy, between August and October 2022. Most patients that took part in the compilation are HIV positi
