Tonsillar (TL) and peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) from patients with pustulosis palmaris et plantaris (PPP) or recurrent tonsillitis (RT) were analysed for their proliferative response of T-cells upon stimulation with non-T-cells in the autologous mixed lymphocyte reaction (AMLR). TL and PBL from the same donor were cultured in the AMLR for up to 7 days. Maximum proliferation was observed after a 6-day culture in PBL, whereas that of TL was observed on the 3rd day of the culture. It was also observed that the AMLR of TL in patients with PPP was significantly (p less than 0.01) lower than i

A three-year clinical material of 163 patients with pustulosis palmaris et plantaris is presented. The study was designed to assess the value of routine radiographic examinations of teeth, nasal sinuses and chest in the detection of an asymptomatic infectious focus. 66 patients underwent 151 examinations. Infectious lesions were found in the lungs of 0 of 53 examinations, inflammation in the nasal sinuses in 3 of 52 examinations (6%) , and abscesses at the teeth roots in 8 of 46 examinations (17%). The 3 patients with sinuitis had symptoms leading to the diagnosis. The root abscesses were all

Seven patients had autoimmune progesterone dermatitis. The morphological findings illustrate the polymorphous nature of the disease in which urticaria, erythema multiforme, and dyshidrosiform lesions were seen. Recurrence of the eruption five to ten days prior to the menses with spontaneous resolution following the menses was present in all cases. Intradermal skin testing to progesterone was done to confirm the diagnosis. Six of the seven patients has a history of use of artificial progestational hormones prior to the beginning of their eruption. It is postulated that the artificial progestero

Chronic hand eczema is a fluctuating, inflammatory, pruritic disease of the hands and wrists that is commonly treated with topical corticosteroids and emollients. In a recent report in The Lancet, Bissonnette et al. demonstrated that delgocitinib cream showed superior efficacy versus a cream vehicle and was well tolerated over 16 weeks in adults with moderate to severe chronic hand eczema.

BACKGROUND: Occupational hand eczema (HE) is common among healthcare workers (HCWs) and has-in some regions of the world-increased during the COVID-19 pandemic due to related hygiene measures.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy of an intervention for HE prevention in HCWs during the pandemic.
METHODS: A prospective, controlled, unblinded interventional trial was conducted in 302 HCWs. The intervention group (IG) (n = 135) received online-based health education and free access to hand cleansing and hand care products. The control group (CG) (n = 167) did not receive any intervention within

Accurate assessments of the burden of hand eczema (HE) in the general population are important for public awareness and intervention. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to provide updated estimates of prevalence and incidence, alongside additional epidemiological endpoints on HE in the general population. PubMed, Embase and Web of Science were searched for studies reporting the prevalence and/or incidence of HE in the general population. Proportion meta-analyses were performed to calculate pooled estimates of prevalence, incidence, severity, and the proportion of individua

The treatment of hand eczema represents a great challenge in the daily clinical practice for dermatologists. There are various forms of local, physical and systemic treatment, such as alitretinoin which is the only registered systemic treatment option for severe chronic hand eczema. In 2017 dupilumab was approved for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis and can theoretically also be applied for atopic hand eczema. The first and most important step in treatment is to identify the underlying etiology of the hand eczema with the appropriate diagnostic measures, ranging from skin

Hand dermatitis is a common condition with a lifetime prevalence of 20%. Glove allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a very important dermatitis affecting health care workers, hairdressers, cleaning personnel, kitchen workers, craftsmen, construction workers, laboratory workers, and homemakers. Occupationally related cases may be severe and can result in significant disability. Glove ACD is most commonly due to exposure to rubber accelerators, which are compounds that are added to rubber during production to increase strength and durability. Given the known allergic potential of these compounds
