[Photodynamic therapy (PDT) for early cervical cancer].

The incidence of carcinoma in situ (CIS) and dysplasia of the uterine cervix has been increasing among young women in recent years. Most of these patients want to preserve their fertility. Also, to accommodate high-risk patients with complications, elderly patients, and those who refuse surgery, we perform PDT as a method to preserve fertility. The technique required for PDT is relatively simple, and can be performed without anesthesia, since it causes no pain or bleeding. PDT, with the use of Excimer Dye Laser (EDL), a type of low pulse laser, has a considerably higher degree of tissue penetr

Effect of 0.1% sodium hyaluronate on femtosecond laser scanning during small incision lenticule extraction.

PURPOSE: To assess efficacy of 0.1% sodium hyaluronate on femtosecond laser scanning during small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). METHODS: A prospective randomized clinical trial was conducted involving 100 patients (200 eyes) who were prepared to undergo binocular SMILE. The two eyes of each participant were randomly assigned to either the 0.1% sodium hyaluronate eye drop group (HA group) or the no 0.1% sodium hyaluronate eye drop group (NHA group). Prior to the laser scan of SMILE, the HA group received an application of 0.1% sodium hyaluronate to the eye immediately. The NHA group d

Evaluation of stability and visual quality in Chinese myopic eyes 2 years following FS-LASIK combined with prophylactic corneal crosslinking.

BACKGROUND: To assess corneal stability of femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis combined with prophylactic corneal crosslinking (FS-LASIK Xtra) for myopic correction and compare the visual quality to FS-LASIK at 2 years postoperative. METHODS: Data of 40 patients (80 eyes) receiving FS-LASIK Xtra were collected in the longitudinal study. They were identified as “borderline” with the risk factors including younger in age, thinner corneal thickness, irregular cornea, or weak corneal biomechanics before surgery. 20 patients (40 eyes) of them were recalled for a comprehensive visit at

Comparison of Corneal Power Assessment Methods for True Corneal Power After Myopic Small-Incision Lenticule Extraction.

PURPOSE: We sought to compare the accuracy of different corneal curvature parameters in estimating corneal power change in eyes that underwent myopic small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). DESIGN: Prospective cross-sectional trial. METHODS: 89 eyes of 48 patients who had undergone SMILE at Shanghai Eye Disease and Prevention & Treatment Center were enrolled. Total corneal refractive power (TCRP) and total keratometry (TK) values, along with corrected parameters calculated using the Haigis, Shammas, Maloney, and Actual Ka+p methods, were compared with data obtained using the clinical hi

Flap Loss in More Than 1 Million LASIK Procedures: Incidence, Management, and Visual Outcomes.

PURPOSE: To analyze the incidence of flap loss in laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), management of this complication, and visual outcomes. METHODS: This multicenter, multisurgeon, single-protocol, retrospective case series study enrolled patients who had undergone LASIK and experienced flap loss. Patients were operated on using a Moria LSKONE or a Moria One-Use-Plus-SBK microkeratome (Microtech Inc, Moria Ophthalmic Instruments). The study assessed uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), predictability (accuracy to the intended target), safety (c

Efficacy of Correcting Different Types of Astigmatism With Small Incision Lenticule Extraction: A Prospective Contralateral Eye Study.

PURPOSE: To evaluate axis-dependent visual and refractive outcomes of small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) in patients with interocular astigmatic axis discordance. METHODS: Seventy-five patients (150 eyes) with interocular astigmatic axis discordance were included in the study. Based on interocular axis combinations, patients were stratified into three cohorts: with-the-rule (WTR)/against-the-rule (ATR) (n = 19), WTR/oblique astigmatism (OA) (n = 39), and ATR/OA (n = 17). Refractive outcomes, corneal topography, and corneal wavefront aberrations were analyzed preoperatively and at 1 a

Corneal Epithelial Remodeling After Hyperopic SMILE: A 4-Year Study.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate dynamic changes in corneal epithelial thickness (ET) after hyperopic small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). METHODS: This observational study included 18 eyes of 16 patients who were scheduled for hyperopic SMILE. High-resolution spectral-domain optical coherence tomography and a custom image segmentation algorithm were applied to measure corneal dynamic ET over a central 6 mm area. ET was analyzed among different corneal sectors (central, pericentral, and peripheral) at baseline and multiple postoperative time points (1 day, 1 month

Subconjunctival bevacizumab and argon laser photocoagulation for preexisting neovascularization following deep lamellar anterior keratoplasty.

We report a rare case of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) neovascularization managed with combination of subconjunctival bevacizumab and argon laser photocoagulation. A 24 year old male underwent Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty for corneal stromal opacity following presumed viral keratitis. Deep corneal neovascularization was observed postoperatively which was successfully managed using a combination of subconjunctival bevacizumab and argon laser photocoagulation within one week of DALK. The neovascularization resolved by 3 months and at 2 years follow up, patient maintained good

A Technique to Reduce Incidence of Opaque Bubble Layer Formation During LASIK Flap Creation Using the VisuMax Femtosecond Laser.

PURPOSE: To identify risk factors for opaque bubble layer (OBL) formation and compare the incidence of OBL using a cone modification technique versus the original technique for LASIK flap creation using the VisuMax laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany). METHODS: This retrospective study examined videos of flap creation using the VisuMax laser to identify OBL occurrence. Eyes were divided into three groups: eyes where OBL occurred using the original technique (OBL group), eyes where OBL did not occur using the original technique (no OBL group), and eyes in which the cone modification techn

Acute hydrops with corneal perforation in post-LASIK ectasia.

PURPOSE: To report a case of corneal hydrops with perforation in a patient with ectasia after undergoing laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). METHODS: An observational study with clinical, optical coherence tomographic, and histopathologic findings. RESULTS: A 41-year-old woman had an acute onset of blurry vision, pain, photophobia, tearing, and foreign body sensation in the right eye 10 years after undergoing unilateral LASIK in Jordan. According to her, the surgeon elected not to operate on the left eye because of a "corneal abnormality." On slit-lamp examination, a tear in Descemet membr

Clinical features of subepithelial layer irregularities of cornea.

PURPOSE: To illustrate surgical outcomes of subepithelial irregularities that were identified incidentally during laser refractive surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study group consisted of 406 patients who underwent 787 surface ablation refractive surgeries. Ophthalmologic evaluations were performed before each procedure and at 1, 3 and 6 months post-operatively. Subepithelial irregularities were evaluated by analyzing still photographs captured from video recordings. Sizes and locations were determined by a calibrated scale located at the major axis of the tracking system's reticle. RESU
