Quality of Work Life of Medical Residents: Evaluation of Positive Learning and Working Environment in a Tertiary Hospital.

Background Quality of work life (QoWL) is a construct assessing the relationship between working conditions and employee well-being. Resident physicians are a vulnerable group due to high-risk hospital environments and demanding academic-labor dualities. This study is based on the premise that "it is impossible to prevent or optimize what has not been measured." This study aimed to characterize and identify the environmental, organizational, and personal factors associated with a satisfactory QoWL among resident physicians in a tertiary care hospital. Methodology An analytical cross-sectional

A proof of concept for community-based IPE: implementation and five-year outcomes of an innovative Interprofessional Internship.

PROBLEM: Interprofessional collaboration is essential in today's healthcare environment. As such, preparing the next generation to confidently and sustainably enter the workforce is increasingly urgent. Experiential interprofessional education (IPE) interventions are particularly effective in bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical application. Community-based education further enriches these outcomes by immersing students in real-world environments that emphasize patient-centered care and responsiveness to community needs. However, IPE remains challenging to design and deliv

A Qualitative Ecological Exploration of Black Perinatal Mental Health and Wellbeing.

BACKGROUND: In the United States, Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than White women and experience disproportionately higher rates of maternal mental health issues across pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Structural racism, healthcare bias, and inequitable access to culturally responsive care position Black women among the most underserved and undertreated populations in the nation and contribute to intergenerational impacts on Black families and communities. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to understand how Black communit

Sacred Burnout: A Conceptual Analysis of Religious Coping Fatigue Among Healthcare Workers in the Philippines.

Religion and spirituality may sustain healthcare workers through meaning, hope, relational connection, and vocational purpose, yet their restorative contribution may diminish under chronic and inadequately supported occupational demands. This conceptual article develops a sacred depletion process model for healthcare workers in the Philippines and proposes sacred burnout as a provisional outcome construct. Through integrative conceptual analysis, theory synthesis, and differential concept comparison, the article integrates religious coping theory with conservation of resources theory. It disti

Evaluating employees' positive functioning at work: Adaptation and validation of the PERMA+4 scales in the Italian context.

As positive psychology continues to gain prominence in organizational contexts, scholars are calling for more cross-cultural investigations into how well-being frameworks translate across different cultural contexts. This study validated both the brief and extended versions of the PERMA+4 Positive Functioning at Work Scale in the Italian context using a sample of 673 employed participants. The PERMA+4 framework extends the original PERMA model, which includes positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment, by adding four additional dimensions: physical health, mindse

Lack of Hierarchical Survival Prognosis in AJCC Staging for Colon and Rectal Cancer-Implications for Future Summary Stage Classification.

BACKGROUND: Current American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging for colorectal cancer utilizes TNM framework groups disease based on extent and provides prognostic information, ideally with a hierarchical logic. We sought to evaluate survival as a function of stage within the 8th edition AJCC staging system for colon and rectal cancer. METHODS: Patients with primary colon or rectal cancer diagnosed 2010-2016 were identified from the National Cancer Database (NCDB). Survival curves were used to determine staging hierarchy for colon and rectal cancer. Multivariable modeling was used to id

A community-based ambulance model: lessons for emergency medical services and everyday health systems resilience from South Africa.

The role of the emergency medical service (EMS) is changing globally as ambulance crews respond to a shifting burden of disease, as well as societal stressors such as violence and inequality. New ways of thinking about how to provide emergency care are required to shift EMS from a role primarily focused on clinical care and transporting patients to hospital. In this paper, we present the experience of the Philippi Project (PP), an innovative community-based model of care developed by front line ambulance crews in a low-income neighbourhood in Cape Town, South Africa. Our insights were develope

Bus operators' responses to job strain: An experimental test of the job demand-control model.

The research aim was to test the Job Demand-Control (JDC) Model demands × Control interaction (or buffering) hypothesis in a simulated bus driving experiment. The buffering hypothesis was tested using a 2 (low and high demands) × 2 (low and high decision latitude) design with repeated measures on the second factor. A sample of 80 bus operators were randomly assigned to the low (n = 40) and high demands (n = 40) conditions. Demands were manipulated by increasing or reducing the number of stops to pick up passengers, and decision latitude by imposing or removing restrictions on the Rapid Transit

JCI Accreditation and Outpatient Surgery: A Scoping Review of Evidence on Healthcare Quality, Risk Management, and Policy.

Background: The global healthcare landscape is being increasingly shaped by two pivotal trends: the adoption of international quality frameworks, such as Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, and the strategic shift towards resource-efficient models like outpatient surgery. While both areas have been extensively addressed in the healthcare literature, empirical evidence concerning their intersection remains limited. This scoping review aimed to systematically map the available literature, identify critical evidence gaps at the intersection of JCI accreditation and outpatient surg

Systemic regulation of rhizosphere nutrient activation by polyol-chelated fertilizers: evidence and a conceptual framework.

Mineral nutrient bioavailability is a key constraint on crop productivity, yet it is profoundly shaped by complex interactions among soil chemistry, environmental stress, and biological regulation. Root exudation represents a central interface through which plants integrate metabolic status with rhizosphere processes, thereby driving nutrient mobilization and plant-microbe interactions. Rather than acting as isolated compounds, root-derived metabolites collectively function as modulators of the soil chemical environment and microbial assembly. Through coordinated effects on metal complexation,
