From January 1988 through December 1991, 81 men were examined for breast enlargement or mass in our Institute, by means of clinical examination, mammography, and US. The patients' age ranged 15-71 years (mean: 52 years). Of 81 studied patients, 71 had gynecomastia, 8 had adipomastia, 1 had an infiltrating ductal carcinoma, 1 an angiofibrolipoma and 1 a simple cyst. The results of 50 operative arthroscopies for impingement syndrome were reviewed. Preoperative arthrography was correlated with arthroscopic findings, which were pathologically graded. The histopathology and immunopathology of murine experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU) following active immunization with the interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein (IRBP) were studied. The clinical, gross and histopathological findings in 50 sheep affected with Johne's disease are described. Clinically 90% were emaciated and 20% showed severe diarrhoea. On necropsy there was thickening of the walls of the intestines, particularly of the ileum, caecum and less frequently the jejunum, but in 36% of sheep the changes were only mild. It was originally thought to be a stage in the progression to invasive lobular cancer, but current evidence suggests that it is a marker of increased risk. An analysis was made of 405 appendices removed with the preoperative diagnosis of acute appendicitis. Diagnosis was confirmed histologically in 334 organs. Morphological changes in the appendix were found to correlate with the duration of symptoms. 25% of the acutely inflamed appendices showed significant lymphoid hyperplasia which support the theory that obstruction by lymphoid hyperplasia is important in the pathogenesis of acute appendicitis. Faecoliths, Enterobius vermicularis and schistosomal ova were found in 6.3% and 2.4% of inflamed organs.

We have determined serum Fe concentrations in 75 patients whose post-surgical anatomo-pathological diagnostic was: 25 cases with prostate benign hyperplasia, 25 cases where besides hyperplasia there was also an associated chronic prostatitis and 25 cases of moderately differentiated prostatic adenocarcinoma stage D according to the Jewett classification.
