A group of cyclic imides was synthesized by reaction of amino-substituted benzenesulfonamides with a series of acid anhydrides such as succinic, maleic, tetrahydrophthalic, pyrazine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid anhydride, and substituted phthalic anhydrides. Paragangliomas and pheochromocytomas are neuroendocrine tumors arising in the extraadrenal and adrenal medulla, respectively. These tumors appear in certain familial syndromes, such as multiple endocrine neoplasia types 1 and 2, Von Hippel Lindau disease, neurofibromatosis type 1 and familial paraganglioma syndromes. The effect of carrot extract on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced acute liver damage was evaluated. We have used in situ hybridization with synthetic oligonucleotide probes to the 16S sub-unit of mitochondrial ribosomal RNA to detect mitochondrial accumulations in biopsies of skeletal muscle from 16 patients with mitochondrial myopathies.
