BACKGROUND: Appilication of MR imaging to diagnose Adhesive Capsulitis (AC) has previously been described. However, there is insufficient information available for the MRI analysis of AC. This study is to describe and evaluate the pathomorphology of the shoulder in Asian patients with AC compared to healthy volunteers.
METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: 60 Asian patients with clinically diagnosed AC and 60 healthy volunteers without frozen shoulder underwent MRI of the shoulder joint. All subjects who were age- and sex-matched control ones underwent routine MRI scans of the affected shoulder, in

Skin defects over the olecranon process are usually a result of wound dehiscence following trauma or following joint replacement. Rarely, breakdown occurs over the olecranon in degenerative joint diseases and as the result of pressure necrosis. We have used a fascial feeding vessel-based fasciocutaneous flap to reconstruct 10 defects in nine patients. The technique provides a thin and supple local flap that is easy to raise and is reliable.

In 15 adult patients, undergoing surgery for symptomatic popliteal cysts of fairly long duration, the communication into the joint was closed by two different procedures: In the early series, Series A (8 patients), the opening was tightly sutured, and in Series B (7 patients) a new type of capsuloplasty was performed, using a proximally based flap from the gastrocnemius tendon for additional reinforcement. One minor postoperative complication occurred in Series A, whereas all patients in Series B made an uneventful recovery. The results were assessed clinically and arthrographically almost 2 y

The safety and efficacy of treatment with cefamandole were evaluated in 77 patients (from 33 institutions) with serious bone and joint infections. The antibiotic was given intramuscularly or intravenously in doses ranging from 1.5 to 12 g/day for 6 to 58 days. Seventy-three of the 77 patients responded satisfactorily, and 63 (of 70 from whom material for culture was obtainable) patients had a bacteriologic cure. Forty-one of 81 isolates were identified as Staphylococcus aureus. Other pathogens included Streptococcus epidermidis, Haemophilus influenzae, Enterobacter sp., Escherichia coli, aerob

OBJECTIVE: Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is characterized by progressive fibrosis of the glenohumeral capsule, with the rotator interval (RI) as a key pathological site. Ultrasound-guided hydrodilation of the RI (Yoong technique) is an established intervention, but traversal of a thickened coracohumeral ligament (CHL) can be technically challenging and painful. This study reports preliminary 2-year outcomes of a modified technique targeting the subacromial-subdeltoid (SASD) bursa at the RI, combined with immediate postinjection manipulation.
METHODS: A retrospective case series was conducted on 13

BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is a painful shoulder condition characterized by limited motion due to fibrosis and contracture of the joint capsule. Secondary AC frequently occurs after upper limb fractures and immobilization, delaying recovery.
METHODS: This retrospective study analyzed 11 patients with post-traumatic AC (< 3 months) following non-displaced humeral fractures treated conservatively with a median immobilization period of 25 days. The cohort included seven men and four women (mean age 52.6 years), five of whom also had rotator cuff injuries. Treatments involved hydrodiste

BACKGROUND: Frozen shoulder is a common medical condition, but the ideal therapeutic method is yet to be determined. Our aim was to analyze the pain-relieving effect of different treatment options used for the management of this disease.
METHODS: Medical records of 59 patients (22 male, 37 female, average age: 55.5 years ±9.9) with early stage primary frozen shoulder were evaluated, their demographic data, physical examination, concomitant diseases and treatment specific data were registered. Life quality and the level of pain were assessed using the Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS) and Numeric Ra

BACKGROUND: Frozen shoulder (FS) is characterized by restricted active and passive shoulder mobility and pain.
PURPOSE: Compare the effect of muscle-biased manual therapy (MM) and regular physical therapy (RPT) in patients with FS.
STUDY DESIGN: Pretest-post-test control group study design.
METHODS: We recruited 34 patients with FS and compared the effect of 12-session MM and RPT. The outcome measures were scapular kinematics and muscle activation, scapular alignment, shoulder range of motion, and pain intensity. Two-way analysis of variance was used to examine the intervention effect with

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence of shoulder adhesive capsulitis (AC) signs on MR studies of patients with various common shoulder conditions.
METHODS: MR images of 316 patients were retrospectively evaluated. Patients were divided into three groups: controls (66 patients), clinical AC (63 patients), and study group (187 patients). The final diagnosis of AC was reached clinically. The study group was composed of patients with focal and massive rotator cuff tears, active hydroxyapatite deposition disease, fractures around the shoulder, and post-surgery. The following AC signs were evaluat

The purposes were to calculate total voxel volume of the entire capsulo-synovial enhanced portion on contrast-enhanced (CE) MRI in adhesive capsulitis, and to investigate its association with glenohumeral joint volume and passive range of motions (ROMs), which are a well-known diagnostic reference standard and clinical hallmark of this condition. Medical records of 169 consecutive patients who underwent ultrasound-guided intraarticular injection with adhesive capsulitis and CE-MRI to exclude other mimicking shoulder diseases were retrospectively reviewed. To calculate total voxel volume of ent

BACKGROUND: Frozen shoulder causes pain and stiffness. It affects around 10% of people in their fifties and is slightly more common in women. Costly and invasive surgical interventions are used, without high-quality evidence that these are effective.
OBJECTIVES: To compare the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of three treatments in secondary care for adults with frozen shoulder; to qualitatively explore the acceptability of these treatments to patients and health-care professionals; and to update a systematic review to explore the trial findings in the context of existing evidenc

BACKGROUND: Although numerous studies have suggested that frozen shoulder (FS) is a self-limiting disease with most patients recovering within 2 years, its long-term outcome is still controversial. The aims of this study were to evaluate the clinical outcomes after conservative treatment for FS and to determine the predictors of its clinical outcome.
METHODS: This study included 234 shoulders of 215 patients who received conservative treatment for FS. The mean follow-up period was 41.8 months (range 27-117 months). Initial evaluation included demographics, detailed medical history, and clinic

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis is currently based on restricted range of motion (ROM) but its diagnostic value has only been rarely investigated.
AIM: The aim of this study is to assess the diagnostic value of active global and passive gleno-humeral ROM to diagnose shoulder adhesive capsulitis.
DESIGN: Cross-sectional descriptive study.
SETTING: One French center for Rehabilitation Medicine.
POPULATION: Patients referred for treatment of shoulder adhesive capsulitis in our center were included. Inclusion criteria were: shoulder pain; limitation of active global ROM (abduc

BACKGROUND: Contractile tissue plays an important role in mobility deficits in frozen shoulder (FS). However, no study has assessed the effect of the muscle release technique on the muscle activation and kinematics in individuals with FS. The purposes of this study were to assess the differences in shoulder muscle activity and kinematics between the FS and asymptomatic groups; and to determine the immediate effects of muscle release intervention in the FS group.
METHODS: Twenty patients with FS and 20 asymptomatic controls were recruited. The outcome measures included muscle activity of the u
