To evaluate the effect of swimming in pregnant rats born with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and their offspring, IUGR rats were obtained using the streptozotocin-induced severe diabetic (SD) rats. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The main objective was to evaluate the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome in Caucasian women with PCOS, using either of the currently proposed definitions (NCEP/ATPIII, IDF and AHA/NHLBI) and, therefore, to estimate the concordance between these three classifications. AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: Although retinoid X receptor (RXR) and peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-gamma (PPARgamma) agonists have antidiabetic effects in hyperinsulinaemic animals, little information exists on their effects after pancreatic beta-cell failure. Thus, we examined if RXR and PPARgamma agonists alter distinct metabolic pathways in animals suffering from impaired insulin secretion.

Type 2 diabetes is an established risk factor for dementia. However, how its genetic heterogeneity affects different dementia subtypes remains unclear.
