INTRODUCTION: Most critically ill patients have a feeding tube placed blindly, but 0.5% result in a major lung complication because misplacement is only detected at the end of procedure. Real-time guided tube placement may pre-empt such complications. This clinical effectiveness study examined the ability to visualise anatomy using Kangaroo™ feeding tubes with IRIS technology ('IRIS' tube).
METHODS: In a single centre, gastric or intestinal integrated real-time imaging system (IRIS) tubes were prospectively placed in critically ill patients noting the anatomical visualisation.

Colonoscopy is effective in the prevention and screening of colorectal cancer. Lymphomatous polyposis (LP) is generally thought to be an expression of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) of follicular mantle cell (MC) origin. Inflammatory fibroid polyps (IFPs) are rare, benign tumors that can arise throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Although the molecular pathogenesis of these lesions has been well characterized, their morphologic features often vary. We report the clinicopathologic findings of the largest series of IFPs to date. A total of 83 IFPs seen at our institution were collected between 1999 and 2012. To review clinical, radiological and histopathological findings of adult intussusception and its management, 18 adult patients who had been treated surgically because of intussusception were reviewed. Of the patients, 5 (27.8%) had idiopathic intussusceptions, while the other 13 (72.2%) had a definable intraluminal pathology. Since 1981 12 patients (11 adenomatosis coli = AC/1 ulcerative colitis = CU) had a colectomy and mucosal proctectomy with ileo-anal anastomosis (IA) and formation of an ileal-S-pouch (IP). BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in the UK: incidence increases with age, median age at diagnosis being over 70 years. Approximately 25% of cases occur in individuals with a family history of CRC, including 5% caused by familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) or hereditary non-polyposis CRC (HNPCC). Most develop from adenomatous polyps arising from the intestine lining. Individuals with these polyps undergo polypectomy and are invited for endoscopic surveillance.
