Interface fluid syndrome in routine cataract surgery 10 years after laser in situ keratomileusis.

PURPOSE: Interface fluid syndrome is an unusual complication after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). We present a case of interface fluid syndrome after cataract surgery in a patient who had previous LASIK surgery. METHODS: A 62-year-old man underwent routine cataract surgery on the left eye 10 years after LASIK on both eyes. The day after surgery, the intraocular pressure (IOP) was 21 mm Hg and a pocket of fluid was present in the interface LASIK wound. The patient was treated with 0.50% timolol eye drops twice daily. RESULTS: The problem resolved within 1.5 months. Two months later, th

Excimer light versus excimer light plus trichloroacetic acid for vitiligo treatment: A comparative study.

BACKGROUND: Vitiligo, a prevalent acquired depigmentation condition, involves a progressive melanocyte loss, posing significant treatment challenges. Excimer light has been employed in vitiligo treatment, while trichloroacetic acid (TCA) has been noted to induce chemical trauma, leading to perifollicular pigmentation and perilesional repigmentation in vitiligo. This study aims to assess and compare the efficacy and safety of using 308 nm monochromatic excimer light alone versus combining it with 50% TCA in treating vitiligo. METHODS: A total of 50 patients diagnosed with stable vitiligo were

Transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy for the management of hyperopic regression after conductive keratoplasty.

Several refractive techniques are available for the treatment of hyperopia. Conductive keratoplasty (CK) is a safe and non-ablative procedure suitable for the treatment of low hyperopia and presbyopia. Due to the high rate of regression, it is not a commonly used technique. There is minimal literature about the use of refractive procedures for the treatment of hyperopic regression after CK. We report a case of a 49-year-old man who had undergone bilateral CK 15 years before for the correction of his hyperopia. He experienced a regression, with sph +2.75 cyl -0.50(20) in the right eye and sph +

Effectiveness of a combined 308-nm excimer lamp and topical mid-potent steroid treatment for facial vitiligo: a preliminary, randomized double-blinded controlled study.

Facial vitiligo has considerable psychological and emotional impacts. Though topical corticosteroids are the mainstay treatment, adverse reactions are a concern for prolonged use. Additionally, 308-nm excimer lamps have been widely used in vitiligo. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a combined 308-nm excimer lamp and topical steroid therapy compared with the lamp alone for treating facial vitiligo. Symmetrical, nonsegmental facial vitiligo subjects were recruited. All facial lesions were irradiated with a 308-nm excimer lamp twice weekly for a total of 24 sessions. The lesions on

Retreatment strategies following Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE): In vivo tissue responses.

With any refractive correction, including Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE), there may be a residual refractive error that requires a retreatment. Here, we investigated the tissue responses following various retreatment procedures in a rabbit model of SMILE. All rabbits underwent a -6.00D correction with SMILE. Two weeks later, they underwent -1.00D enhancement by: (i) VisuMax Circle, followed by excimer ablation (S+C); (ii) secondary SMILE anterior to the primary procedure (S+SE); or (iii) surface ablation (S+P), and were examined for 28 days. S+P induced corneal edema and haze, and
