To wean or not to wean: proton pump inhibitor management after anti-reflux surgery amongst foregut experts.

BACKGROUND: Most patients undergoing anti-reflux surgery (ARS) have a history of preoperative proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use. It is well-established that ARS is effective in restoring the anti-reflux barrier, eliminating the ongoing need for costly PPIs. Current literature lacks objective evidence supporting an optimal postoperative PPI cessation or weaning strategy, leading to wide practice variations. We sought to objectively gauge current practice and opinion surrounding the postoperative management of PPIs among expert foregut surgeons and gastroenterologists in the United States. METHOD

Challenges in virtual collection of patient-reported data: a prospective cohort study conducted in COVID-19 era.

UNLABELLED: Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, patients attending ambulatory clinics at cancer centers in Ontario completed the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS) at each visit. At our center, completion was via touchpad, with assistance from clinic volunteers. As of March 2020, clinic appointments were conducted virtually when possible and touch pads removed. We anticipated a negative impact on the collection of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and the recognition of severe symptoms. METHODS: We performed a prospective cross-sectional cohort study to investigate remote ESAS completion by

Evidence and implication of interventions across various socioecological levels to address pre-exposure prophylaxis uptake and adherence among men who have sex with men in the United States: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) represents a proven biomedical strategy to prevent HIV transmissions among men who have sex with men (MSM) in the United States (US). Despite the design and implementation of various PrEP-focus interventions in the US, aggregated evidence for enhancing PrEP uptake and adherence is lacking. The objective of this systematic review is to synthesize and evaluate interventions aimed to improve PrEP uptake and adherence among MSM in the US, and identify gaps with opportunities to inform the design and implementation of future PrEP interventions for these p
