BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to explore whether certain aspects of emotion dysregulation (i.e., facets of alexithymia and rumination) are more closely linked to hypochondriasis than to depression and vice versa.
METHODS: Nineteen patients with hypochondriasis (HYP), 33 patients with depression, and 52 healthy control participants completed the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, the Response Styles Questionnaire, and additional symptom and illness behaviour scales. A clinical interview was used to establish DSM-IV diagnoses and to exclude all cases with more than one axis I diagnosis.

Chronic pain and especially back pain rank among the most meaningful medical conditions worldwide. This leads to extensive costs in medical care systems. In about 80-85% of cases there is no morphologic evidence for a possible pain etiology, hence such forms are called "non-specific back pain". BACKGROUND: Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES), the commonest nonepileptic event, represent 20-30% of drug-resistant epilepsy. Correct identification of PNES avoids unnecessary hospitalization and exposure of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), and helps implement appropriate psychological treatment. Long-term video-electroencephalography (LTVEEG) is the gold standard test to diagnose PNES. However, in a poor-resource country like India, hypothetically, short-term video-electroencephalography (STVEEG) may substitute it, as its usefulness is established in attack disorders.

The unpredictable nature of sickle cell disease (SCD) and its social and environmental consequences can produce an unhealthy and almost exclusive focus on physical functioning. INTRODUCTION: The 20-item Anxiety, Abuse, and Somatization Questionnaire (AASQ) was developed by Trainor et al. (2020) to differentiate functional/dissociative seizures (FDS) from epilepsy. The objectives of our study were to validate the German version of the AASQ and to evaluate its diagnostic accuracy in distinguishing between FDS and epileptic seizures.
