Pigmented villonodular synovitis of the hip in systemic lupus erythematosus: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Pigmented villonodular synovitis is a rare disease of unknown etiology mostly affecting the knee and foot. Until now an association with autoimmune diseases has not been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: The diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus was made in a 15-year-old Caucasian girl based on otherwise unexplained fatigue, arthralgia, tenosynovitis, leukopenia, low platelets and the presence of antinuclear and deoxyribonucleic antibodies. At the age of 20 a renal biopsy revealed lupus nephritis class IV and she went into complete remission with mycophenolate mofetil and steroid…

Hand arthritis in systemic lupus erythematosus: an ultrasound pictorial essay.

A small minority of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients may develop a deforming arthritis, typically with a non-erosive (Jaccoud's) … PJs. In three cases erosions were not present radiologically. Eleven (65%) patients had evidence of tenosynovitis. In SLE, HRUS with PD detects a high prevalence of inflammatory pathology in the tendons and synovium of the hand and wrist, and a high prevalence of MCP joint erosions. HRUS offers a sensitive, real-time and readily repeatable assessment of soft-ti …

The accessory flexor digitorum longus as a cause of Flexor Hallucis Syndrome.

The Flexor Hallucis Syndrome has been associated with ballet and sports activities. It has been thought to represent over use with attendant tenosynovitis of the tendon in the fibro-osseous tunnel extending from the ankle to the midfoot. We report a patient with an accessory flexor digitorum longus who presented with classical clinical features of the syndrome. The patient's disabling symptoms persisted despite a year and a half of nonoperative treatment. They were finally relieved when the accessory muscle was excised. In addition to the previously described clinical features of the Flexor Ha…

[Imaging in rheumatology].

Conventional radiography, ultrasonography, scintigraphy, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are important diagnostic tools in rheumatology additional to clinical investigation. Radiography provides information both of the juxtaarticular and the abarticular bone. It is relevant in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, spondylarthropathies, and osteoporosis, and for the investigation of other regions like the thorax. Sonography is superior to radiography to delineate soft tissue structures such as effusions, tenosynovitis, tendinitis, paratendinitis, bursi…

Suspected scaphoid fractures in skeletally immature patients: application of MRI.

PURPOSE: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the MR findings in the wrists of pediatric patients who have sustained acute wrist injurie … red in eight patients, five of whom had scaphoid fractures. Seven patients had evidence of extensor tenosynovitis on MRI. CONCLUSION: A normal initial MR image had a negative predictive value of 100%. [Staphylococcus aureus infection in chickens in industrialized poultry units. 2. Microbiological studies: Staphylococcus aureus and other pathogens].

Checks were applied to 3,213 dead or ill broiler chickens and broiler parents for the purpose of elucidating enzootic or epizootic Staphylococcus aureus infections which had occurred on three industrialised poultry units. Rates of Staphylococcus aureus detection and identification declined by the following order: staphylococcal septicaemia (100 per cent), dermatitis (75.42 per cent), arthritis and tenosynovitis or osteomyelitis (64.59 per cent), wound infections (24.02 per cent), infection of bursa suprasternalis (18.94 per cent), underdevelopment (8.70 per cent), navel-yolksac-peritonitis (7.…

De Quervain's tenosynovitis and ganglion cyst were most frequently covered while other NTWD had few or no guidelines or pathways. Variation in the composition and nomenclature of sources was found. Acute hepatitis in a biological male patient secondary to suspected disseminated gonococcal infection in the absence of Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Disseminated gonococcal infection is well described in the literature and most commonly presents with signs and symptoms of systemic inflammation including arthritis, tenosynovitis, dermatitis, or imaging findings consistent with Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome. This condition is characterized by inflammation of the liver capsule with adhesion formation-most commonly a sequela of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. However, there are no documented cases of acute hepatitis secondary to disseminated gonococcal infection in the absence of these findings. CASE PRESENTATION: Here we present…

The surgical procedures were carpal tunnel syndrome, De Quervain's tenosynovitis, synovial cyst, finger cyst, and trigger finger. Superior labral anterior and posterior (SLAP) lesions of the long bicep insertion on the glenoid: management in athletes.

INTRODUCTION: SLAP injuries are common in athletes but there is no consensus on different aspects such as pathophysiology and treatment opti … tients, both as a single injury or associated with other pathologies such as rotator cuff injury or tenosynovitis. On the other hand, there currently seems to be a trend of increasing the indication of tenodesis even in underage patients and athletes, given that there are reports of fewer re-operations and a faster recovery. MRI inflammation of the hand interosseous tendons occurs in anti-CCP-positive at-risk individuals and may precede the development of clinical synovitis.

UNLABELLED: Interosseous tendon inflammation (ITI) has been described in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Whether ITI occurs in at-risk individuals before the onset of clinical synovitis is unknown. OBJECTIVES: To investigate, by MRI, ITI in anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP)-positive at-risk individuals (CCP +at risk) and to describe the anatomy, prevalence and clinical associations across the RA continuum. METHODS: Hand MRI was performed in 93 CCP + at risk, 47 early RA (ERA), 28 established 'late' RA (LRA) and 20 healthy controls (HC) and scored for ITI, flexor tenosynovitis (TSV) and RA M…
