[Evaluation of fracture strength of two kinds of zirconia all-ceramic crowns with different edge compensation angles].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of different edge compensation angles on the fracture strength of multilayer zirconia all-ceramic crowns and traditional uniform zirconia all-ceramic crowns. METHODS: The resin tooth preparation specimen of the mandibular first molar with a knife-edge was fabricated. A 3D digital model of the specimen was obtained by scanning it with a 3D dental model scanner. The 3D digital model was imported into computer aided design (CAD) software, and three 3D digital models of the full crown with the same surface shape are designed with the edge compensation angles of

Conservative management of pediatric mandibular fractures with cap splints- A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Mandible is the second most common bone involved among pediatric facial fractures, and the open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) technique used for its management results in faster bone remodeling and quicker functional recovery. However, it can lead to damage to the periosteum and surrounding tooth buds, and may require a second surgery for removal. Therefore, conservative methods always remain mainstay for management among pediatric patients. This systematic review evaluates the use of cap splints in managing pediatric mandibular fractures and compares this approach with ot

Healthcare resource utilization in the management of hypophosphatasia in three patients displaying a spectrum of manifestations.

BACKGROUND: Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is a rare, heterogeneous disease caused by low tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase activity and associated with a range of signs and symptoms, including bone mineralization defects, respiratory problems, seizures, premature tooth loss, and fractures. Data from patients with HPP and their healthcare resource utilization are lacking. We evaluated healthcare utilization for 3 patients with differing severities of HPP. RESULTS: Patient 1 had perinatal HPP (received enzyme replacement therapy asfotase alfa under a compassionate use program), Patient 2 had inf

Skeletal changes in hemochromatosis of Salers cattle.

Hemochromatosis is an inherited defect in Salers cattle, characterized by increased iron absorption and wasting in young animals. Loss of teeth and soft bones has been reported. This study details bone changes in a prospective study of an affected Salers heifer and an age-matched, half-sibling control. The heifer fell 2 weeks before euthanasia, developed non-weight bearing lameness, and then became recumbent. At necropsy, the heifer was smaller than the control and had fractures of the humerus, femur, and ribs. Distinctive circumferential laminations in the outer third of the cortex were seen

Comparative evaluation of dentin microcrack formation after root canal preparation with different nickel-titanium instrument systems based on micro-CT: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Dentin microcracks following root canal treatment may progress to vertical root fractures, a severe clinical complication. Engine-driven nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments are associated with dentin microcrack initiation, but current evidence remains inconsistent. This review systematically synthesizes micro-CT-derived evidence on the effects of different NiTi instrument systems on dentin microcrack formation. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and grey literature was performed from inception to October 1, 2025. Eligible studi

Optimizing CBCT acquisition for detecting non-displaced dentoalveolar fractures: effects of field of view and resolution mode.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography for detecting non-displaced dentoalveolar process fractures using an ex vivo sheep head model, and to compare acquisition protocols differing in field of view (FOV) and manufacturer-defined resolution mode. METHODS: Thirty sheep heads underwent baseline cone-beam computed tomography to confirm the absence of pre-existing fractures, followed by controlled mechanical loading. Fracture status (present/absent) was established by direct surgical inspection after imaging. Each specimen was scanned using four predefined

Patterns of stress distribution of endodontically treated molar under different types of loading using finite element models-the exploring of mechanism of vertical root fracture.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to explore the mechanism of vertical root fracture (VRF) using three-dimensional finite element models (FEMs). METHODS: An endodontically treated mandibular first molar with a subtle VRF was collected and scanned with cone beam CT (CBCT). Three finite element analysis models were created: Model 1 had the actual endodontically treated root canal size; Model 2 had the same root canal size as the contralateral homonymous tooth; and Model 3 had the root canal size expanded by 1 mm based on Model 1. Different types of loading were performed on these 3 FE

Effectiveness of adhesive taping to reduce pain, swelling and trismus after fracture mandible surgery.

Swelling, pain and trismus constitute the major post-operative morbidity after surgery for mandibular fractures. We assessed the role of kinesio taping in mitigating these. Two groups of 15 patients were compared; those who had such applied to the side of the fracture and a control group of those who did not. Pain, swelling and trismus were assessed pre-operatively, and on the second, third and fifth post-operative days, and found to be significantly less in the study group. This simple technique is therefore effective. It is a simple frugal intervention without any side effects.

The Influence of Mandibular Gonial Angle on Fracture Site.

PURPOSE: The mandibular angle is influenced by multiple codependent morphologic dynamic factors, such as osseous anatomy, forces exerted by the muscles of mastication, occlusal loading patterns, and anatomic structures. These factors can influence the presence of a fracture in this area. Our research aimed to investigate a potential correlation between the risk of angle fractures and age, gender, fracture etiology, gonial angle size, presence of mandibular third molars, or presence of occlusal support. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study was composed of patients treated for

[Outcomes of traumatic dental injuries in children].

The aim of the study was to review literature data on incidence and outcomes of traumatic dental injuries (TDI) in pediatric population. A systematic search was conducted using Elibray, Pubmed/Medline, Scopus databases in October 2018. Reference lists were also hand-searched to identify additional literature. The most prevalent complication of TDI is pulp necrosis (PN) which triggers inflammatory root resorption (IRR). PN and IRR are however much more specific for mature permanent teeth. In immature teeth pulp revascularization may occur even after avulsion. Pulpectomy timing is well defined f

Complications of an Ageing Dentition Part 1: Occlusal Trauma and Cracked Teeth.

A growing problem in dentistry is complications associated with failing amalgam restorations that have been in place for many years. At present, there is a wide variety of treatment options available in the clinician’s armamentarium when this situation arises, however, without the correct diagnosis, the prognosis for the tooth may quickly diminish, despite the clinician’s best efforts. A confusing array of symptoms and failures may confound even the most experienced dentist, which will inevitably lead to invasive and time consuming approaches in a desperate attempt to rectify the initial probl

Traumatic displacement of teeth into maxillary sinus cavity: an unusual dentoalveolar fracture.

We present an unusual dentoalveolar fracture case who had displacement of teeth into maxillary sinus cavity. This patient was 15 years old. He had oral bleeding and lost teeth after falling from the top of a building. Examination of maxillofacial region showed that there were left maxillary teeth lost, alveolar fracture, gingival bleeding and laserations. Maxillofacial bones were found intact. Canine, both premolars and the first molar teeth on left maxilla were lost. Pantomographic evaluation viewed two teeth in the left maxillary sinus. In addition, computerized tomography clearly showed oro

An unusual case of acquired unilateral condylar hypoplasia.

A case is described of acquired unilateral condylar hypoplasia, in which the right condyle seemed to have been fractured at an early age. There is evidence to suggest that the unresorbed condylar remnant persisted in the glenoid fossa and that a new condylar head had developed anterior to the articular emminence. This 'new head' showed a carrot-shaped radiolucent wedge suggestive of the condylar growth cartilage and, clinically, exhibited some growth potential. A complex composite odontome present in place of the mandibular right third molar may also have been caused by this early trauma.
